be good to hear some stuff about your set up that you can pass on, some hot tips etc (3.30 at aintree in a few weeks!)

Cheers guys! What would you like to know Taffy?

(Ive not heard of lyndon by the way, my motor is tuned by a guy called Andy who works out of DCR in Preston. Very strong and fast motor, all be it a bit of a hand full at some circuits)

well in my case anything is new coz i'm not an SM type!

there are always more questions than answers!

To start the ball rolling then, Chris you said that Andy from DCR does the engine tuning. What's the main difference compared to standard set-up you get with a road going supermoto then (assume it's about omptimising fuel/air ratio's, precision polishing within the engine, configuring fuel mapping with race exhaust system etc)? Is there any dyno testing etc carried out by them as part of the tuning process etc?

Right well, the motor has a lot of head work (porting/polishing, valves, springs, cam), a higher compression piston, 650 crank/rod (instead of 630), a small mx stator & flywheel, E-Start removed, some ratio changes in the gear box and an STM slipper clutch. I run it with an Akropvic race system, and a highflow DNA airfilter. The fuel/air ratio is setup on the dyno.
Compared to a standard 650, it makes alot more power and torque obviousley, but its also loads smoother off the bottom end and revs alot more freely too.
 
Bring on the SM I say. Having a hard time getting my new one handling right & not many SM guys here to spread the love. Nice ride & whats with the rear suspension ?
 
I want one...any idea of cost ? wouldn't think there'd be too many on ebay :lol:
 
8O might keep that in mind whilst I watch the Aussie dollar regain some value. Think my money is better spent getting that akra exhaust it desperately needs. Spewin I sold my old akra slipon to Awilsck now but who knew.... :roll:
 
I've seen a Husa Akra on e-bay recently but think it's been sold, I'll keep an eye out for you & post back if I see one (slip on version yes?)

The air shock is ace, its LOADS lighter than a conventional shock, works really well, and is easy to play with settings wise as there is only Air pressure, Compression Dampning and Rebound Dampning to play with. Kinda like supsension for idiots :lol:

When I first rode berg, I really struggled to get the thing to steer, espesially riding 650's. The crank inertia is ridiculous. Anyways, I have the frame braced and strengthend to stiffen it up, the yokes are set for the steeper head angle, the forks I push through between 15mm and 25mm depending on the track.

Any use :)
 
some of the stuff you want, an enduro rider eants. you get straight line instability - we don't.

i went from the 22mm offset yokes to 14mm and the bike was as solid as a rock and was quicker to turn over 5mph. because it was so stable, i dropped the yokes down the forks 25mm. fantastic. this was the '03 frame not the '04 and later which got steeper.

i put up a fairly in-depth write up on mika ahola's bike about 3-5 years ago. he had played with the swingarm pivot point to get it to lift at the rear more under acceleration (more pressure into the tyre). i think it might be in my gallery. get it, save it, explode it, read it.

43.8mm carb next and also the cone air filter mod for you!

other than that, i think you have it covered.

Tell me more about this carb? Is it a mod to the standard one, or a new oversized one?

And no so keen on the cone filter idea, i've seen people struggling with them on wet days.

well it's considered the biggest inlet restriction. there's no real scret too it. go into the doc and look under carburation. i have done three now but only up to 42mm. the last bit requires the steel ring and far from making the job harder: it makes it easier as protecting a wafer thin cast alloy ring is next to phucking impossible!

the air filter is actually perfectly safe. if i can use it in 20" of slop and gloop then so can you. just coz muck lands on the filter doesn't mean it got through the filter!
