'05 Fork PreLoad Spacer Removal

I ride a lot of trails up in the Sierra mountains that are littered with rocks and logs. We even have areas that we call rock gardens that are just wide trails made up of loose rocks from 24" to 4" in diameter. To ride through those with any speed requires very supple suspension settings. The rear end was easy to set up but the front was not. I tried 5 weight fork oil, turning the compression damping all the way out, dropping the oil level to 130mm and that helped. Recently, I decided to try also removing the plastic preload spacer from the top of the fork and Holy Crap! it works perfect!

Very interesting. I removed my plastic spacers too. Having the forks equipped with preload adjusters it only removed a couple of mms since the plastic spacers were not thicker than that. I could never reach the point where the there were some slack for the springs, I really wanted to try riding with some spring slack to see what it was like. Your spacers are about 10 mm or maybe half an inch?

Regards
