Hi all, i'm stuck with a problem on my husaberg fe 450 2005. It leaks oil from the breather hose and i can't figure out why.
The only possible thing i can think of is that there is just to much oil in the engine. I bought this bike a couple of weeks ago and when i bought it the oil was all the way over the little glass thingy. Could this be the problem? I'm pretty worried to ride with it now as i'm afraid i will run out of oil ](*,)](*,)
Many thanks in advance!

When cold, the oil should be at the bottom of the sight glass.

Overfill it, and it throws it out of the breather.

The breather pipe is just a piece of rubber hose held on by hose clamps. If the clamps are tight and there are no cuts or cracks in the pipe itself it can't leak. Could it be leaking from the rockerarm cover? There is no gasket there just sealant. The stars and moon must be in perfect alignment in order to get a leak free seal.

the oil must be at the bottom of the glass with around 2-3mm showing when the engine is cold. this is your first task to get right OK?

regards

The oil is defenitely coming from the top of the breather Hose. I Let some oil out the engine so that when it's cold it's about 1/3 of the Glass. Just went for a Drive and going to check if it's still leaking. I don't see the oil raise tho when the engine is warm :/

Har this on my 08 as well. Its a stupid design to suck air in to the carb The same place u ventilate The valvehousing. But The right amount of oil makes it less. U will allways have some oil goin down to the rubber intake.

The top of the breather hose is connected to the frame back bone unless someone did some sort of modification. How about a pic?

I'll get you a pic first thing on monday. Is it normal that when there is to much oil in the engine to just spew it all out through the breather Hose? When i first got the bike the oil was all the way to the top of the Glass. After driving it a couple km's for the first time and checking the oil again i noticed it dropped a bit, after driving it a bit longer it dropped a bit More. Will it stabilize? I Let some oil out of it so now when the engine is cold it's about 1/4 of the Glass, but when the engine is Hot i don't see the oil level rising to 3/4 of the Glass :/
Monday i'll also get a proper maintenance done, so all new oil and filters. I'm just worried here that it might Be the piston rings or something like that :/
Many thanks in advance!

From 2003 to 2004 the design of the rocker arm cover was changed. An second crankcase ventilation port was added, right inline with the timing chain as it travels upward and flings oil at it. If a breather mod is done and connected to this port oil will blow out like crazy and there is no stopping it. That port must be plugged and a hose run from the other port. If the stock set up is run with the filter for the breather system in place then there is no problem. If an excess amount of oil is in the crankcase then it will find its way up the breather hoses (2 into 1), down the frame backbone and into the carb where it will be digested. You could say that it has a self regulating oil level. I think someone did a breather mod on your bike and tapped into the wrong port. If that is the case then just move the hose to the other port (the one toward the front of the bike) and plug the one that is currently being used.

What is the reason behind the breather mod? Is there a Step by Step tutorial somewhere with pics on this topic? Because i'm having a hard time figuring out which ports you mean :(
Right now, both ports are used by a Hose which connect which splits to the two ports. Sorry for being slow here but i'm pretty new to this kind of stuff :p
Thanks for all the help so far :)

Also for the breather mod, is a check valve necesary?
Gonna take of the tank and have a look at the Hose :)

Alright, so got to take of the fuel tank today and saw that the breather Hose is just absolutely smashed.
Will it Do any Harm if i don't Use a checkvalve? Other wise i guess i'll fix it without for now and add one next week so i can ride without leaking oil :/
Does any check valve from the Crank case venting topic work?
Many thanks!

edit : would you think this check valve will work? and wich diameter should i get?

best bet based on reading this thread is for you to just replace the knackered piece with a new one. and make sure it has the foam piece in the top.

Thinking the same thing, does anyone knows where i can buy that hose/piece within Europe?
