Ive got nearly all the 70 deg and 00-08 con rods drawn or either coming in the post or being measured up

the idea is to have a 3D model of each rod and eventually each big end pin and oem piston to help with 3D design of new engines, find alternatives and check the fit once the stock rods become unavailable or impractical

I have the 628 rod, 550 rods, 644 rods, 501 rod all done, 570 is on the way, 70 deg 450 and the 00-08 400/350/470 are being measured.

if you have a rod that is not listed above and would like to measure it for us :twisted: :twisted: then you can help by posting the model details and the measurements as described by the drawing.

for the pre 08 450 I just need confirmation of the length

posting a few pictures of the rod would also be very useful

A is Length Centre to Centre

B1 width of little end

B2 width of big end

C ID of little end

C1 thickness of little end (including bushing just measure with calipers at the top)

D ID of big end

D1 thickness of big end material (measure with calipers)

E width of beam at little end (measure just near the start of the filet)

F width of beam at big end (measure just near the start of the filet)

G thickness of I beam section

H depth of pocket

J minor diameter (edge) of little end

K minor diameter (edge) of big end

also please include

W = weight !

they are for practice mostly Dr_C, I'm out of firecackers again :D :D

I got a few people quizzing me on the rod dimensions last year who were looking for alternative supply by trying to find similar rods intended for other engines so I started to collate a few dimensions as I may need one myself at sometime.

with the 3D models people can check for piston or crankcase contact etc and as you point out yes if you wanted a production run made.. then all the info is available in the 3D models to send via run DMC to the lead billet parkinsons forge or even one of those 3D printers

the models are not 100% accurate of course :D
 
Hi Bushie,

Had a new 628 rod cmm measured at work the length centre to centre of this particular one came in at 136.124 I am thinking perhaps they vary a bit.
The big end dia was 42.004mm, the Carrillo measured 41.998mm
The little end of the 628 rod measured 20,021mm.

I will take one of the cases in and get the deck height and the crank offset measured some time.

I think the variation may be due to the little end bushing installation and honing ...

the new rod style form the 570 looks very robust, short and stout .. ours look like steam engine parts in comparison :D

Hi there guys!

I'm still a newbie on the forums, but hopefully I have a worthwhile contribution here.

Bushmechanic,I have a conrod for a 2002 FX470 and 2005 FC 450 which I can measure for you.
Although at a quick glance they looked VERY similar, I haven't actually measured them for myself.
Annother thing, the KTM RFS 450SX (2005-2006) conrod seems to be a match for the Husa 450 rod, if you don't know this already. I made a visual match to an aftermarket rod for the ktm, but I have yet to measure them, so I am only 95% sure of this.

the dimensions vary a bit so its good to get a varied sample

yes the rod you mention is almost the same and its available from pro-x

eventually I'll have a drg of each one .. its been super busy this week

Mr Bushmecanic, so far as I can see the dimensions for 450 and 470 rods are near identical. I did notice however that the bigend bore was machined off center by 0.5mm, as you can see from the photo, there is a 1mm difference in wall thickness between the two sides. Was this done intentional or do you think it was a machining error? I suppose if the hole was machined right in the center, there might be a 0.5mm difference in the center to center measurement.

Other slight differance is the location of the lubrication hole for the smallend, 450 right on top underneath the piston, and 470 on the bottom an toward the side, I suppose then the hole must face toward the oil jet in the engine casing.

In the photo I have the 470 rod lying on top a 450 rod, and annother 450 rod on the left.

i need "fe 400 2002", "fe 501 2002" "fe 650 2003"conrod dimension too

Here is the dimension of the crank offset to centreline of the
cylinder bore, 6.331mm.

And the height from the crank axis to the deck/head gasket face of the block 200.179mm.

This is for the 628cc motor.

Any calculations for rod lengths will of coarse have to take into account that
the rod is on an angle at TDC and the compression height of the piston being
used.:cool:
