I was wondering if anyone knew, what the engine horsepower and top speed for a 2000 FC501 was? I dont have a dino or speedometer. I know this bike is tall geared with six speeds.

Thanks for the info

I'm not sure of the horsepower, and lacking what you're gearing is, I will venture this guess. It will go way faster than you want to fall off at!!!

Seriously, on a flat hard packed surface, in a tuck, it will do at least 90-100mph. Plenty fast indeed.

Ned may pop in here and have some better numbers for you.

I raced a 2001 501 for several years in the desert and the only bike that would really give it a run for it's money was tall geared CR500, and that was only if the CR got the jump. Top speed wise on a dry lake I would pull away, and that was geared 15/52.

......well

I cannot give a scientific answer to this question, but my 2001 FX 470, which is also 6 speed, will do more than 80....I let off at that point. I assume the 470 and the 501 are very similiar....My brother has an 07 450 Berg, but it is spinning pretty fast at 55 m.p.h., It will probably run 65 pinned. I can hang with him in 5th gear, then I freaking hit 6th...omg.....it goes real fast, for a dirt bike. I am guessing 90-95 pinned....I don't plan on finding out.

nu use at all to this thread, but still cool, 650 speeds measures on a dyno.

Stock FC501 is good for 46HP at the wheel ex dyno

With the right gearing on a hard surface I'd say 170-180km/hr

Great power on the 501's, love 'em

hello, i have a dyno reading from a fc 501 model year 2000 , from a dynojet 150 dynomemeter.

bike was stock with the arrow titanium system ( it was oem) and wearing a road tire at the back for the dyno.

also in the same test and also in stock form were :

ktm 520 sx -----52 hp
yzf 426------48hp
cr500------55hp

and......

fc501------55hp.

it was the first ever 4 stroke bike made the same hp with a two stroke at the same capacity.

That is very impressive. Of course the 4 stroke has different power than the 2 stroke CR or KX500. But still 55hp..wow. Also, top speed at around 100 MPH. In some of the tight tracks I ride on. I'm lucky to see 4th gear.
