Now, this may have been do before but I couldn't find any posts relating to it.
I bought from fleabay this week a starter motor which was advertised to be from an R6. When it arrived I could plainly see that it was different to what I expected. The main body is about 25mm longer than an R6 motor and the internals are bigger too. I did a search on the net and found out it is from a Kawasaki ZX6R but fortunately the important dimensions are the same as the Husaberg unit, the drive cog is a match and the motor fits in the case perfectly too. Usually with the R6 motor you can just drill new holes in the end casting and mount it on the original holes where the Berg motor sat, with the ZX6 motor I can not do this as due to the 25mm difference in length the mounting bolts will foul the starter body. To overcome this I have ordered the 2005 starter bracket which has an offset to allow me to drill new holes in the ZX motor and hopefully mount it firmly.
The only reason I'm going to this trouble is the fact that the ZX motor is bigger and I'm presuming that bigger means more power?
I should have it done within week and you'll see a post stating a fantastic success (and also Taffy buying every ZX6R starter off ebay) or a resounding failure.
Keep you posted.
