All,

This event is happening in eastern Netherlands. Brief description, as I understand it:

about 10 years ago this band started this thing. The band itself is a really old (like the "Dutch Rolling Stones") band that has been around a long time. They like motorcycles a lot. Apparently, this event involves live music with motorcycle events held in between/during. I have been told that a "redneck" would be considered high class at this event (the farmers in the Netherlands are supposed to be a rough crowd).

Zwarte Cross (Black Motocross)

I plan to go on Sunday, pending all the other stuff in my life... see you there!!!

Hi Parsko,
Sure you want to go there? It's a very crowded, loud and dusty gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts drinking a huge amount of beers which results in catapulting cars over circus tents, driving over the circuit with WW2 tanks, bathtubs, doghouses, and whatever they can get rolling....
On the other hand it is a great party and the weather is still nice, so why not have a taste of this typical Dutch cultural high class event.... Don't expect to much real racing going on.
And the farmers you mentioned: thats true.

Cheese,

I have been thoruoughly warned. To me, it is something I must experience once. Plus, my coworker has gone almost every year for a while, so I've heard plenty of stories.

Beer, live music, and motorcycles. There isn't much more to life, is there?

Do you care to join me?

-Parsko

Yep, life is complete with all that around!

Would love to join you but this guy has just become an uncle so I have to do my duty's and go and have a look....

Have fun!

Maybe we can go for a spin though the woods sometime?

Wow!

I'm pretty pissed off right now, since I lost all my pictures on my phone yesterday while trying to upload them...

Anyway, the highlight was...........................

The Husaberg Merry-go-round. Yes, you heard me right. Take your standard issue Merry-go-round, the ones with the hanging horses, and replace all the horses with 4, count em, 4 brand new Husabergs. I thought I had seen it all when I saw the baby with a beard, but I was WAY wrong, WAAAAY wrong.

The Zwarte Cross was EXTREMELY cool! It was perhaps the largest event I have ever been to. Larger than any state fair I have been to. It included a complete fair, a GIANT tent housing a HUGE stage, and a complete motocross track. We walked around the track, and found that at very weird distant, in-woods places, there were beer and food tents, and more stages for bands. I NEVER saw so many wooden shoes in my life. I knew they existed, I know where to buy them, and I know people do wear them, but I never saw so many.

Events I saw:
funny vehicle competition - coolest one was a guy who put a tubine on a car and ran the thing, it was loud and obnoxious, just how I like it
Mini-baja - Like the SAE Mini-Baja vehicles, but with 1000cc YZF motors attached to them, very cool and fast.
Motorcycles - there was one berg, and he was one of the few actually hitting the doubles, getting lots of crowd response
Mini-Motos - Mopeds, 50cc's, etc...
Street Motorcycles - Yes, people were putting knobbies on their street bikes and taking them out on the track, HILARIOUS!
Stunt show - guys jumping the sphere-of-death doing supermans and heelkickers
Sphere-of-death - 3 dudes spinning in the sphere, never seen it before, but it was really cool

The greatest part was that none of the races were actually races. Guys would stop were they saw someone they knew, and do a HUGE burnout spitting dirt into the faces of the crowd, and this was completely allowed. Oh, and in EVERY event, people were wearing costumes while driving/riding around the track.

Safety was of 3rd country regulations, aka not there. It's one of those last few dying events that is one big lawsuit away from being completely lame.

Guys would be walking along, and jump into a huge mudpuddle, for no reason, to get everyone around them completely mudding. VERY cool!

In between events, they send around a girl standing in a jeep, TOPLESS. Yes, kids saw the boobs too. Europe is SO cool, cause I love boobs. After her was a dude, in costume, on a white horse. After him were two ladies dressed in Mad Max beyond thunderdome outfits, atop horses, who had saddles made to look like motorcycles, VERY COOL!

In all, there were 40,000 people there yesterday. It was packed. Plastic beer cups EVERYWHERE!!!!! People would throw beer cups at riders on the track as they were doing laps, that was hilarious!

All-in-all, the event was one that will stick with me till I die. If you EVER get a chance to go, GO. I promise you will have a good time.

PS- I'll keep working on the pics, and post if I can fix them.
