just write down the first time you got to ride one of these things and tell us your impressions....!

my first ride: just bought the bike had only started it and rode it about 3 m before this day as i bought it second hand from a dealer and would not let me ride it as i did not have a open bike licence so after

.I started it up and took off up the road (let me set the seen me  <nube last bike 83 XL250 this bike 99 fe 600 ball tearer brand new knobs drizzling rain hadn't ridden a bike for near on 2 years)so i have taken off up the street thought i would do a wheelie as i was leaving the shop twisted the throttle and bike goes side ways up the whole street 8O <me .

pull up at a set of lights rain has stopped now roads are dry i take off and try again 2nd gear bout 1/2 throttle wheel starts coming up 8O <me .Back off go into third and it does it again 8O <me.

get it onto the freeway in 6th gear i open it up flat bikkies for the first time holding it flat for about 15 sec i feel im getting a bit fast at this point look down speedo is out of range <it goes to 180kph> coming up to slight bend in the road luckily i am in the inside lane as it takes me 3 lanes to make the slight corner 8O <me.

so finally get it home look over the bike and realize i have worn the rear knobs down to half already so i push it inside and and wait for mate to get home from work to show off my new toy he sais to start it up for a sec so i start it up inside and give it quick blip not realizing his **** friends cockateel is in the room sadly the noise was a bit much the little birdy and the berg had killed the bird but other than that ...! had happy husaberging ever since.... :D

First saw a Husaberg several years ago on the Getaway show with James Reyne's brother & the crew on them out west. He pushed a button on the bars & it started!

Never got to like my 2 smoke KTM 300 after losing the TE350. I needed a cheap, few year old e-start so another Husky was not an option. Got onto this site & found enough info to give Husaberg a try but still had not clicked about the FE vs FE'E thing, I thought all FE's were the same.

Two '98 model FE600's in Sydney same morning, found out later one was FE & other was FE'E. Rode the FE first & was so disappointed I almost did not go on to see the other. It felt a bit like the Husky & had great gobs of power but had no e-start, looked roughly built & vibrated like the clappers.

Went to see the FE'E out of courtesy as the bloke had brought it up from Canberra for me to see. The starter was in a box of bits & the muffler had been chopped by someone who had more desire than skill to do the job. Build quality looked similar to the first but it ran soundly & was SMOOOOTH! Pre 2001 FE'Es have counterbalancer shafts, FE's don't. After a bit of haggling I bought it for less than half what I would have to pay for a similar featured second hand Jap bike, took it home & fixed the busted bits. So far the only thing (fingers crossed) has been I think I may have been better off with a 400. The 600 is a handfull in tight going, but it is fun on open roads!

Back in about mid January I went with a buddy to the local Susucky shop for him to talk to the owner about the suspension on his sofa "four wheeler". He had been after me to get something so I could ride with him for a while. So I was just browsing at the used bikes and they had this '98 FE400 that was all faded and looked like it had been there a while. I had heard of the brand but never ridden one. They really wanted to sell it because they took it on trade in the fall of '99 or spring of '00. Nobody around here much has heard of them. So they offered to let me take it for a week and try it out.

It was pretty hard to start the first day I rode it but by the time I took it back it was starting on 3 or 4 kicks. I was really impressed by everything since I had always had jap bikes and keep in mind I have not owned a dirtbike in about 16 years. The last thing I had was a Honda CR250, about a '86 model I guess. this thing had great torque and was fast as hell! I rode the snot out of it on every trail I could find within riding distance. I was hooked after one weekend.

My search was then on for a used berg. This dealer wanted too much for this one and wouldn't come off enough so I found a '99 FE400 a couple months later on Ebay for $1625. And thats my story. I am now in the realm of real motorcycles. I have only had this one for a few months but am now considering getting another, maybe going with a '00 501.

This is not really the very first time I rode my Berg, but the first time on the street: Sometime in August of '98 I was "road testing" a new FS600e when I noticed the twinklies and siren chasing me as I slowed for a stop sign. The trooper asked if I knew how fast I was going. I honestly replied, "I don't have the foggiest, I'm just out having fun." 8) He came right back with, "...You must have been having quite a good time, as I just clocked you at 95 in a 45." And just to brag I told him, "Good thing for the sign, because I was only in 5th and had to slow for the stop!" Thankfully, the trooper was an old dirt biker so we began chatting about Bergs and what ever else. Then I got my ticket (can't remember how much he tagged me for), returned to the dealer, and bought the bike. :D

I bought my '92 FE-501 last year and the first time I took it out for some trail riding.. Took awhile to start it (left side kick takes awhile to learn) but I got out there for about 20min. I was climbing a hill, nothing major. Sitting on the seat even. All the sudden, dead... Nothing. I kicked and kicked, then laughed as my friends tried to kick it for me (that left side kick again!). I coasted downhill and then pushed it 1.5miles through the hills to a riverbed where we could pick it up in the truck. To top it off I had brought a **** out there on a 2nd date because she wanted to try and ride a thumper. We did spend the rest of the day in the truck talking while my friends were out riding, so maybe the 'berg did me a favor.??? I still would have liked to roost around out there...

Oh, and it was just a gummed up fuel filter and bad gas in the float bowl..

I've just passed to say a big hello to all the Berg fellows right here.At the moment i am the freshest member here so guys be good.I have a FE650 '04 and the smile from my first ride is still on my face. One of my dreams has come true and each and every day i realise this more.I wish you all have safe rides and lots of fun with your bikes.
See and write you soon... 8O

Stadal - Just watch out for all the rubberneckers in your part of the world for the Olympics. :D They can be hell!

Well I just bought my 2002 FX470 from KevinG (who bought it from Caveman) 2 weeks ago. I was able to finally get it out this past Sunday for the first time.. It's amazing ! I've had several thumpers (including a 98 Husqvarna TC610) and this is by far the smoothest I have ever ridden. The power feels almost electric, so smooth. I bet I only got 30 minutes of riding in because all my friends wanted to jump off their CRF's and YZF's and try mine.. They loved it as well.

Went on a ride with some guys. One of the guys I had not ridden with in a long time has an '04 FE650e. He let me ride it for a while. When I got back on my KTM 625 SXC, it felt like a big heavy slug and the KTM is a powerful, well handling bike. I'm thinking about getting a FE650e now. My other buddy who also rides a 625 SXC tried to warn me and said, "I wouldn't ride that berg, you'll want one." He was right.

First ride

This is what I wrote on my race club forum site the day after my first ride.

Just rode an enduro Husaberg 550 yesterday. It is an 04 Demo bike the shop owner said I "just had to ride". He also said I'd hate my KX after I rode it.

The bike is wicked fast. No, more like insane fast. Has a headlight and dual element tail light that just needs a pressure switch. The tail light also has a plate light too. Easily streetable. It also has a computer just in front of the bars that is a speedo, odometer, lap timer, enduro timer etc.

I rode it in a field behind the shop. Hard pack dirt but with good grip. Had it pinned in the first three gears, fighting to keep the bars off my chest the whole time. Even though it was my first ride on a proper 4 stroke, I didn't want to look like a "Sally" so I was really trying to get on it. Proper is not even the word. This thing has awsome suspension and brakes and rules Motard over in Europe, so I'm told. This bike still had stock exhaust (2 into 1) and was pretty loud. The after market stuff he sells is good for 2.5hp and a few db's.

Combo deal anyone? A 98 ZX6R Racebike and 98 KX250 Supermoto for $6499?

To say this bike left a lasting impression would be an understatement, but the impressions were on my hands from the grips.

New Husaberg Owner

Hello All,
I am a new Husaberg owner(2001 FC470)the bike runs great, very low hour bike(less than 20hrs!!).I find it hard to believe that this bike needs numerous mandatory updates just to be ridden with a moderate amount of confidence,I now see why the resale is so bad! I am smitten by this machine however and I need guidance as to what I need to do to it before it grenades on me,I am very maintenance oriented! It's so nice to pull up to the gate and be the only Berg out there, anyone can ride any of the ASIAN bikes! This bike is sooooo fast!!! I really want to keep it together and running great ,I appreciate your help! Thanks

Richard

My first 'berg ride...

I haven't ridden a motorcycle in about 12 years. I have friends who have quads and I have had some fun on them, but most of my spare time has been on freeride and downhill mountain bikes.

I just moved 2 months ago and I am now too far to ride any solid trails, so a friend of mine says I should sell my big bike and get a dirt bike. With about $1500, I start looking at used bikes with no real idea of what I wanted. I wanted a 4 stroke trail bike, that was about it. After finding a 'Berg on ebay for $1400 reserve, I decided to look into it. The more I read, the more I liked the idea and what people had to say about them.

The bike on ebay never met the reserve price, so I call the guy to see if he still wanted to sell. After a few weeks, it was mine for $1200. A '96 FC400 that has been well taken care of. I call up my friend and we head out first thing Monday (labor day).

What a blast! Being a big guy (6'4" and 235 pounds) the 400cc 'Berg is perfect. I rode my firends Honda XR250 and I couldn't see the $5500 he spent on it. I know I got a deal, but the more I ride it, the better the deal gets. There wan't anything like this in that price range and I couldn't be happier with this bike. I know I will get at least a few great years out of it, then trade it in on a new one.

First Ride

Thanks Taffy for the information,I was not able to open the link but that is okay, this bike is awesome,I'LL keep it worts and all I trust it won't be any worst than any other bike as long as it's maintained!I raced it last weekend and I can't tell you how many people stopped by to check it out,the other bikes were'nt getting this much attention, plus it runs so great,I'm convinced....whats the word ... Husaberg!!

Thanks,Richard :D

It sa now about third time i ride the stock 650 supermotard.Next saturday i am racing with it so we will see.
What I can say that the bike almost is connected to my corpus callosum and the throttle-backwheel,I mean its is very fast on the throttle, with even a stock bike deliveries power wheelies in 3 gear.(15-40)

The carb is all the way too lean for racing purpose. The engine is almost electronic,so fast it respond on the commands of the rider.

On circuit the ground clarence is too small,so i also change the footpegs.
The tires sucks but is not for racing,I presume for riding on street and for laisser.
Subscribe shortly; FAST-LIGHT-AGGRESSIVE-RACING ONLY
Otherwise i hope i don't have any engine problems,we will see.

I gave up road racing and decided to try supermoto racing, I did the first race on the KTM LC4 , while i was in the pits the guy next to me had an FS650 that he had real trouble starting, But it looked so light and there was something about it.

I phoned up a friend of mine who is a dealer and asked him if he could get me a Husaberg FS650 to test ride.."a what" he said!! anyway a couple of weeks later he phoned me up and said I've got a 'berg for you to try. i went up to his shop and there it was ..looking absolutly beautiful.

He told me to take it out for a ride...after 200 mtrs I turned around and took it back to him and said i'd buy one...I honestly couldn't remember the last bike that i'd ridden that got my heart beating so fast, I now think i know what someone feels the first time they smoke crack..

How to upset a dealer - my first ride

I had researched every 4stroke and needed to resist the Honda CRF urge. The local Dealer in New Zealand was convinced to let me have a test ride. Of to the beach/dunes...not a good start as the new FE450 berg took 5-10mins to start, even using the electric. The bike has awesome torque, is less stable than a CRF, BUT on the mudflats it is the perfect 'return to biking' tool for us in the middle age crisis return to biking. I spent 2hrs with a mate trying to dig the 'berg from out of sand/mud upto the seat, so sticky that the cluctch would slip rather than spin the wheel!!!

For those who need a lowish ride height, usable power, light weight and electric start this is the one........I collect the new FE450e next week!!!!

Still abit concerned about starting and reliability.....JayB

Hi the first time i rode a berg was about ten hours after i brought one from a friend of a friend, saw a few around the supermoto races and felt i just had to have one.
My last two bikes have been 4t wr yams, so the last thing i needed was a left hand kick start and reliability worries but hell the husaberg looks just so good.
After driving near on all day and night to pick up the bike, i woke to a nice sunny and dry day, nice i think time to try me new toy, well the kickstarts on the left choke hidden under the tank and the fuel taps ooooz fuel onto me hand as i turn them on, not a good start really, the yam would of been 2 miles into me ride by this time, so i kick it hard and on the second time it fires up, well i only travelled about 5 miles and new it was a good choice.
550 2003 fs
Lets just hope it hangs together like me yams did.
Mick.

Hi Taffy
Yes i have raced a few enduros, finding them a bit hard work now, most of my friends have sold their dirt bikes so getting a bit lonely.
A few mates have got supermoto bikes now so i still get to ride with them but not often enough.
I have spoke to you a couple of years ago on Thumper talk, we arranged to meet at hit the dirt but you had some bike troubles and could not make it :? .
you helped me to jet my wr very successfully.
i have some dirt wheels on order so may bump into you some time.
Mick.
