I New to berg. The previous owner said the bike was hard to start.
After reading till my eyes bleed I think I have learned some things.
99 is a bit of a grey area for hardware because it was the beginning of several changes.
One of which was the electrical system.

I have a 99 fe501 with e start.
I cannot find the timing marks on the stator because it is as pre 99 part?

Please see attached pics to confirm my suspension.

then you need to bleed till your eyes bleed a little more fella!

you have ignition timing marks on your flywheel and I can see them clearly in the second photo.

secondly, there isn't a grey area for me. 1998 was the beginning of the stator in the ignition cover. it went on till 2003 inclusive.

I see the 2 match marks on the fly wheel.
I do not question the flywheel.

I do not se match marks on the stator.

The marks in photo 96 face the engine.
I'm looking for a mark in photo 95.

Hi coronan

You can't see the marks in the stator, because they aren't there !

You can measure the values of your stator, but by the look of it, I bet that your stator is pre 99.

So you will need the correct stator ... sorry my friend :furious:

And Taffy, it was 99 the first year of the stator in the cover, the 98 was stator in the engine.

yep
as to stator marks, the one on the back appears to be missing, and the under side looks different than ones i've seen. why does one pic of the front have a mark and the other doesn't? here's pics of an '02, which i think should look the same.

Yep
On the pre 99 you can almost see the coil on the back of the stator, and in the latter ones you can't as the one that Ned shows

Is there any chance that the marks on the back coorilate to the mark on the front???

the problem is that the early one's flywheel spun the other way.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'm in the market for a stator.

Are these the one that are no longer made?

Any recommended sources in the states?

if you send it to me in the UK I can change it to the later one for the same price as a repair OK? it would go from 1750 ohms red black to 3K and the green black from 23 to 170ohms.

Taffy

Yes, that's a way to go, but you still don't have the timing marks on the back.

Maybe Taffy would be interested in making one exchange, and send you back one latter stator a keep your older one.

Just one idea.

Hi Zaga

if you put the stator in the middle of the slots you can mark your own line in the window. mark it exactly in the middle and you're all good to go!

Is this the right part number Stator for my '99

250 286-01?

If these are NLA; how is it that no one has come up with a retrofit????
What changed in '04?

sure, because SEM went out of business.

What is different about it.

Will the kokosan rotor and stator fit in the flywheel housing?

It can be made to fit. But is a bit of a chore. There is a thread here on the forum dedicated to converting SEM to kokusan.
