WP shaft inboard bearing

poor ol dusty had his frag on him and i know a few more have so here is a question?

has anyone ever run theirs without the inner rubber seal?

and another question:

did husaberg R & D phuq up by not putting a circlip on the shaft OUTSIDE the bearing and just leave a lip in the cases to stop the bearing going in?

this way you pressed the bearing in from the outside, then the shaft went in from the inside, circlip locked the hole assembly.

the present design doesn't work.

RE: WP bearing inboard

Are you referring yo the w/p bearing the clutch cover? Or is the one in the case half? Either way, some form retainer is necessary to restrict float/thrust, eh? please continue and provide more excellent pictures as you usually do!

RE: WP bearing inboard

when i first got the 650, there was no o-ring on the wp shaft outside the bearing. no difference between no oring and oring, but my seal prolly covers up the weep hole. and on mine, there is no lip in the case, its the seal that keeps the bearing from moving laterally. mine is a slip fit into the case and a lite press fit on the shaft.

RE: WP bearing inboard

sorry lads, i've renamed the thread. i meant the bearing in the cases through which the shaft protrudes. it has 2 rubber seals and yet still has to do up to 5,000rpm. it also has all the pressure of the camchain pulling it upwards for all its worth.

my point is that dusty had his frag on him and i feel that the inner rubber seal could be removed to see what oil gets to it? i'll try and take another photo but eric's off for the weekend today so it can wait....

we all know the cases need to be a sealed unit but quit frankly by the time you've got the balls, ball races and a friggin great big clip in the way you may as well have a fully open bearing anyway!!!

RE: WP bearing inboard

If it's the bearing I think you mean (must be cos I think its the only shielded bearing in there) then I did that.
When I pulled my motor down there was no grease left in there and only a light coating of oil so I figured if I took of 1 shield then it'd have to get more to it. I was debating what side to remove but went for the inside since I reckon it should be cleaner oil in there.
Time will tell - only been about 30 hours.

great info coastie, i'm sure there must be enough oil about. might even be a way of directing oil in as well.

definately worth keeping the circlip across the bottom as an edge to keep the oil in. of course conversely, once some shyte gets in there its kapeesh!

Not too sure about the crankcase area needing to be sealed Taff- its been pointed out a few times on this site that there is a "bleed" hole in the cases anyway not too far from that bearing.

re-quote me aysberg as i think i was asleep when i wrote that one! yeh you have a point. i damaged the seal getting the clip in on an engine. the the case was so damaged that even though i'd cleaned it all up, when i pressed the bearing in i must have changed the groove's shape agaion. by the time i had the clip in the seal was lightly dented so out it came again and a new one in.

however, on another occasion i might be braver and try at least the inner seal out and trust the engine to oil it.

put it this way, i gaurantee enough oil IF IF i was to remove both seals- but i might start other issues. might be good to have someone tell us who had both the seals out?

RE: Re: RE: WP bearing inboard

had a word with my bearing supplier today and he mentioned that if the bearing was a standard 61906: the grease inside would nly be good for 100d !!!!

it is possible to order 2RS bearings withaHMP grease installed.

that is all.
