Would like to hear from FC550 owners

Hi Everyone,
I’m new here; I’ve come all the way over from KTMTALK to get info on Husabergs. It’s the 05’ FC550’s I’m particularly interested in. I’d like to hear from riders who have them and how they like them. I’m riding a 02’ MXC300 (99.9% in the desert) at the present and love the bike, but I’m thinking about a change. I want to hear how they match up in power, handling and how the FC550 would work in the desert. Thanks in advance for any info.

The FC models are the motocross models. As the SX is in the KTM line.

The FC bikes only have a 4 speed transmission, where as the FE models have a 6 speed transmission.

An FE550E would have electric start, 6 gears, similar power to a 525.
More torque than your 300, no desert tanks available though. Range would be limited to 55 or 60 miles depending on terrain and riding style.

Hi,

a friend of mine got a FC550. It´s not always an advantage to have such a powerful engine, especially not on curvy MX tracks.
I think in the desert it would be great to ride a 550, but where I come from we haven´t got any deserts...
But I also think that you should get a bike with a 6 speed gearbox.
4 speed is a bit too slow in the highest gear. No problem for MX but sometimes
when riding Enduro he wishes he had a 6 speed gearbox.
So I would recommend a FE 550.
By the way, it´s relatively easy to change the gearbox from 4 to 6 speed, but I think you don´t want to dismantle your engine at first. I think you just want to ride, or not??

The 2005 FC550

The frist part I notice on the 2005 FC 550 is one exhaust header is longer than the other. Why? Because they raked the forks back like KTM, Honda, and Yamaha. I check the fork angle specs and the rake angle is the same with everyone else. Especially for motocross where handling is so critical. Then the extra power from the 550cc is a plus.

2005FC550:
The front wheel "scrubbed" the exhaust header on my FC550-03. This was with winter tyer.
Talked with Husaberg, and they had an improved header prototype for manufacturing in 2004. So I think they where excanged on 2004 models with problems.
The first year with the new header design from the factory is 2005. I guess..
I don't think it's a geometric change.

The 2005 header tube is about 70% longer? If I remember correctly, the rake angle on the 2000 and later were about 3 degrees further forward than KTM. I had plans to buy a 2001 FC 501 and cut the frame to rake the steering stem back toward the engine. But instead, I bought a KTM 250SX. In the U.S. Ryan Terlecki 2002 finish third overall in the Western 4-Stroke Motocross Nationals and rode very well on a 2002 FC550. He said, the steering geometry was fine, and did not suffer any specific handling problems.
