Being dumb as soup can someone please explain why the hour meter on my 390 jumped from 176.3 to 179.6 after a 20 minute ride to work ?? Many thanks Ride safe and often

A cosmic ray might have flipped a transistor state in a memory address bit. Seriously. (Am computer scientist!)

Is the speedo unit powered? Does a light turn on in the screen? My bike had some frayed wiring so a fuse for the speedo/blinkers went out, and the unit operated from something else than the bike's power - a battery? If it's like that, low voltage could cause errors in operation?

Corrosion inside the unit?

EMI or electrical noise ..?

whenever medical equipment was reported by nursing staff to not be working right and we couldn't duplicate it, we would tell them it was a problem with the FM. (freakin' magic) they accepted it.

Thanks to all I would send the thanks icon but I can't do that either! Display is illuminated and I will take it apart at the weekend (no doubt I will have some bits left over when I re assemble it) I believe there is an internal battery too so I'll replace that and see what happens next I will ensure that I am wearing my tin foil hat just in case.

Sorry can't help. but looks like your getting the worlds dumbest answers. Just thinking are there power lines on the way to work or now about Sun spots ? If it doesn't happen again then don't worry about it
