My 2003 FE650 wont select nuetral when the motor is running & the bike is standing still.
I can get nuetral if the bike is rolling or if the engine is off.
The clutch doesn't have much travel before it engages, could it just be the clutch dragging a bit or is this a common problem?

Common problem.

The best way to find neutral is to climb a hill in second but not build enough momentum, so that when you switch into first, well, there you have your neutral.

Glad I could help.

From 1st gear, put pressure on the shifter but not enough to shift it. Then blip the throttle. With a little practice - Voila!

I can't take credit for the suggestion, I read it on the site here somewhere.

Well, when you have looked at the part and seen how the star selector works, then you understand how to get into neutral, but when the bike is running, somehow it is a lot harder to find it willingly than by accident (hence the description of how you sometimes find yourself in neutral at the wrong time, like when you attack a hill like a squid).

Hahahahhahahaha

froggy, you never cease to amaze me! can i have the gradient of the hill and the speed please? i also need to know which gear i should be in?

in the meantime back at the ranch............................

all you need probably are new friction plates and a drum. 1 hours work. might be just the drum but only by looking with a seasoned eye will you kno. check for minimum thickness.

clutch drum.

I mean like a big 45 degree hill that you did not see coming after a technical turn for instance.

But I did eventually learn that the Bergs do fine in these hills if you pull the throttle generously.

I tried to ride my Berg like a DRZ. Nope. Not the same bikes at all.

Otherwise I have a little movie that shows how the gear selector works. I guess maybe Jason could add it to the download section?

It is a feature, not a bug!
