welcome to UHE pansie!

could you put your bike and location in your nik/signature please?

ok, sure the carb is beaten up and needs a real freshen up. i've serviced 2-3 lately and they were absolutely knackered inside. you can spend a lot of money on an old dell orto. i'm talking $200/£200 anytime in servicing and parts.

suggest you get a much younger carb or change everything inside. defo the atomiser and needle, smaller #52 choke jet with a fresh 'O' ring, fuel valve is £20, would renew the pilot if all greened up, new banjo filter...

etc etc and don't forget a good blow out and new 'O' ring on the fuel screw. when you look in the doc you'll see the mention of "the missing CD1 jet". look for this.

Forever I had an idling problem on my 1997 FX600 and it drove me nuts. I could never get it to idle high enough even with the idle screw turned all the way in. I tried cutting the screw spring down and even removing the screw spring to get a little more slide lift. If I left the choke on it would help a little but not much. I finally saw a virtually new carb on e-bay and snagged it. When comparing my new carb to my original carb the problem became immediately apparent. The idle screw location was drilled and tapped a little off the mark causing the idle screw to have a limited amount of slide lift. Perhaps your carb was drilled wrong like mine.
