Tamera and Dave have started putting together their website for the mag they're trying to put together for women riders. They are looking for stories from women riders on how they got started in the sport, injuries and accidents, and what I think is gonna be a hoot to read about ... stories of men behaving badly while riding with the women, lol. All street and dirt stories are welcome.

Also if you guys/gals know of any shops/biz places that would be interested in helping please direct them to the site. I think this is gonna be a great way to give women an inside look on different types of riding/racing and what they can do to get started. Oh, and pay no attention to the messy haired girl on the cover. :clown:

RE: Women

I wish them good luck and I will not try to discourage them.

Seems to be that it is a particularly small niche. A bit like trying to get a "Men into Ballet" type of magazine off the ground (sorry if I sound callous).

I worked in publishing for years and the reason why I don't anymore is because it's a trade which suffers a lot from competition from the Net.

Which brings me to my suggestion: if the Web site is well done, well maintained, there are opportunities there.

RE: Women

i don't know how the other brits feel but the name does nothing for it. it does have connotations here in the UK due to a comedy sketch a few years back which i won't go into. i still think it's a good idea though.

get the mag into every hairdressers/manicure/beauticians/health farm/lypo suction centre you can!

lizard, i enjoy your ditties here so i hope they let you loose with the keyboard as well!

regards

Taffy

I think that the magazine is a great idea but, The name "Hot Pipes" seems to send a conflicing message. Is your target demographic men or women? Sounds almost like a Playboy type of magazine except with women on motorcycles. Women may reject it because of the name.

These sections:

Bump and Grind - stories of injuries and accidents

The Dog House - stories of Men behaving badly while riding with the women!

are questionable.

A serious magazine written by women for women will endure much longer than a magazine with a section titled: Motor Ink - Pictures of Tattoos

My wife would toss the magazine out based on some of these sections.

My 2 cents

The main target is women of course, lol. But they understand too that they need some big names to catch peoples attention and stuff ... just us little local riders won't sell the mag, lol. Women who are possibly uptight might not like the titles of the departments and stuff ... but that's a chance they're willing to take.

Each quarter they will feature a new rider. Also, Tamera is working on gettting some of the local dealers to donate and or loan out bikes for a meet and greet type deal. This would be a chance for girls/women to come on out and try some different bikes and maybe get some riding lessons too. As well as getting familiar with gear and bike maint. stuff too.

This is where Tamera and Dave are kinda starting ...

""We are targeting all types of advertisers, for the first few issues they will be industry related and as we progress we will add female interest ads as well as health and beauty. Subscriptions are available on the internet at our website, we are trying to get approx. 1,000 retail outlets to sell the magazine at the counters throughout the western united states. So far everyone has agreed to sell the magazine, we are offering a great incentive for retailers. We will list the available retailers on the website as well. Good questions! Encourage everyone you know to go on the website and submit their stories and pictures for our regular departments.

We had a fun visit with Rekluse on Wed. one of the gentlemen recognized your face on the cover! I love it!!!!"

The first issue is due out in March for the AMA hare scramble being put on here at Little Gem Cycle Park.

Oh ... and keep in mind ... the 'dog house' category is meant for humorous situations. We don't want any mean stories that might scare off people.

I digress, perhaps the magazine title does indeed represent the content after all. Since there are no worries about the "uptight" ones why not just go for it and rename it Tattooed Dirt Bike Chicks from Hell

does this mean that we'll be seeing women in bikinis on bergs?.........WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!

i've been a very naughty boy and deserve to be spanked

If nothing else this thread demonstrates how quickly things can wind up going in a different direction than intended if there are no standards.

Do you want the latest issue proudly displayed on the coffee table and offices of your subscribers for everyone to enjoy or do you want it hidden under Taffy's pillow or on top of the toilet next to his Hustler collection?
