Wiring a new head light

Hey guys I have done all the research for installing a new headlight I purchased. The light only has a negative and a positive lead on it, I used a test light on the stock headlight 3 prong connector and do not have any power to it. Does the bike have to be running in order to get voltage to this connector.

Thanks

Do you have the handlebar or pull switch installed? You might have to put a switch to complete the circuit. The switch connector will be under the front plate area.

yes it does I'm afraid. however, if you take a look at the red/white at the solenoid, this is permanently live and will go up to and die at the ignition key. try to get that to ffed into the red over on the left handlebar switchgear. the red is the feed into the bar switch.

OK, it is only temporary but it saves running the bike.
