MTK Rebuilds

You would think after 3 rebuilds you would have sen the light and bought a KTM, have a mate who has done 14000kms without anything more than valve adjustments and regular servicing. Suppose it takes awhile for the penny to drop, or maybe you have a big cheque book

Thanks for your valuable information Johno its new members like you that make the forum :)

RE: MTK Rebuilds

Glad to help,,,,,,, I find it interesting that someone has had three rebuilds at 9000km's each and still has the same bike, I thought they might want to know some other people insights with other brands particularly when KTM own Berg. Must be some interesting differences hey.

Cheers

RE: MTK Rebuilds

Faktor I recommend you use NTN Bearings, I have a mate in RedCliffs that is doing a rebuild he says they are good :)

Yes I purchased a Husaberg 06 650 and currently selling it for 8K. Is there anyone that wants to buy it? I have not done any rebuilds yet. :)

I agree there must be some interesting differences.

I guess like 125cc differnce between a 525 and a 650. That does equate for different loads on engine etc.

Its hard to compare the 2 bikes since the only 625cc bike ktm has is a LC4 and it is not a RFS engine.

RE: MTK Rebuilds

yes your correct on that one as I have a mate who has one of those (the 620 actually) and he did 25000kms before a rebuild with just regular servicing. Yep they are totally different engines.

RE: MTK Rebuilds

I have a commodore that had done 200,000ks without a rebuild, does that mean I will be seeing the F1 teams running them next year, cos I hear they only get a few races out of a F1 engine.

Sorry to add fuel to this fire, but Jonno, who cares about your mate? Do you have a usefull comment regarding on bearings for a 650 berg?

RE: MTK Rebuilds

Interesting point sibbo, I'd hardly call a 05 650 berg f1 material either, it's probably not alot different to my 525 or the 520 I had before that one, it's a little different to the lc4 which did the 25000kms before a rebuild, the other ktm 520/525 engines so far seem to be going around 14000-15000kms between rebuilds.

Your right though, this doesn't say much about bearings as we haven't been playing with them much on the ktm although I have another mate who has done around 14000kms and had to put bearings in, he got them from the local bearing shop for bugger all and so far has had no problems. Hopefully they go as far as the others as he is looking to not rebuild again until he gets another 14000kms.

If it was me I'd be putting the bearings in from the local bearing shop as they cost next to nothing, there's no difference in the bearing other than huge mark up's for people to make money on. It's the old trick, make it as hard as you can to cross reference the bearings and everyone will take the easy option and pay the extra for the factory bearing cause they can't work out the numbers as there are none.

Cheers

HA HA ... guess what ? on the freeway on the way home from work today , i stopped to assist a ktm broken down . she had locked up and he was not happy :(

my FE 650 E 04 did 13700klms before i rebuilt it , i did'nt have too in the end , on inspection it was still ok . i rebuilt it anyway because i already had the parts .

i have a '' like new '' 04 con rod kit to prove it .

What about in cases where the bike maker gives you the exact bearing code in the parts list, the actual bearing you remove is engraved with that code, but the bearing maker cannot supply that bearing ??

Sometimes bearings are a special order by a bike/car maker due to unique chamfers, diameters etc to accomodate machining stuff ups the maker has made on castings,or other reasons and are simply not available as a "bearing shop" part.
Sometimes you HAVE to go genuine, but as you say if you can source them elswhere it is generally a lot cheaper
