Just wanting to know if a radiator from a 2001 400 will fit a 2006 550
I need to repair or replace my 550 radiator due to damage and have found a good second hand one which is cheaper than repairing mine
thanks for any info

mmmm. possibly. just looking at the '06 spare parts manuel and it i shows the rad as being '06 onwards.
what changes where made over the earlier one i dont know.

they appear very similar in the relevent spare parts manuels but the drawings cant be relied on 100%

What happened Tim?

AFAIK the only difference is the ability to mount the temp switch for the thermo fan. Cafey18 fitted an early model radiator to his 650 at the Louee Force ride after an altercation with a stick courtesy of Wildman and OrangeBerg. Visually, my 98 501 rad will fit my 650 with the above noted exception.

Gday Steve
A tree gave me a cuddle at the Wattle Flat enduro.
I bent the top and bottom tanks and core on one side, I am still using the radiator but it does not look the best and as I am trying to sell the bike I need to do something about it.
Quoted repair of around $400 but have found a good second hand one for $100
I also thought the only difference would be the temp switch and fan mount holes but I thought Cafey had an issue with the mounting points
I am confident someone on here will know for sure

The only dofference from 00-08 is the the temp sensor bung in the lower tank that comes in the 06-08 .
If you dont need the temp sensor bung, you are good to go.

The top mount on the one that Cafey18 put in his bike didn't match & we just had to cable tie it. Cant see too much problem with moving the mount if you know someone with a tig welder. Time to upgrade to the 09 model is it Tim ?

I have run an 02 on an 04 with no problems. I still have the 04 radiator and will try to match it up to my 06 tomorrow and see if there is a problem.
I had always thought the above statement to be true, but it looks like I could be wrong.....again.

Thanks to all
I purchased the radiator and it fits perfectly, only difference was the temp switch mounting hole, hopefully bike will be sold on sunday and pick up the new one next week

What is the new one your getting Timmy? an 09 berg? or are you changing brands on us? Hope all is well.
Regards Pids

I think in '05 or '06 they also got holes thru the cores for mounting the thermo-fan.

Otherwise Oyk has fitted a late model rad to a pre 2000 bike with only an extra mount lug extension.

Hi there Pids, Azza, Steve & Wal

I am updating but not to an 09 berg, i am going a new hugely reduced 450 berg, why you may ask
I rode the new 09 berg and well i'm probably the only person in the world but I did not really like it, rode it first on the tar and was very impressed later rode it on the dirt, even though it was not much of a test ride the thing just did not do enough for me to come up with $14500 to put one in the shed, so as I feel comfortable with the current(old) style and wanting to do more enduro's next year i have purchased the 08, but will keep a close eye on the 09 with hope my situation changes and possibly look at a 2010 model
I will say the 09 berg is a nice piece of work and I hope will prove to all out there that the Berg's are good bikes after all. I bet there are a lot of them at the 4 day enduro and hopefully me on the old one
Also if you know someone thats after a 06 550 mine is for sale,
see ya
