will a 16 tooth front sprocket fit on a 2008 550? the reason i ask is because i'm doing a lot of highway driving and i just changed my rear sprocket from a 40 tooth to an original force parts Husaberg 48 tooth rear sprocket and i lost 15km top end where, before, i cruised back and forth to work at 85km an hour without much rpm's and now, with the 48 tooth, i can only cruise at 63km with high rpm's. i looked at the tolerance/space between the front sprocket and the slider and with the original 15 tooth that is on there now, it doesn't look like a 16 tooth wil fit.

thanks, frank

A 16t will fit.But at 65km/h with 15/48 it revs only 3500rpm,that is really nothing IMHO.

At max rpm(9800) you will have a topspeed of 180km/h.

My Fe 650 came stock with the sick gearing of 16F and 38R
I now run a 15F and 48R and i hit 160 km flat out with that gearing.

wonder what the stock would have done.

Regards

On my 04 550 you can get a 16t front on, you have to undo the plastic chain runner on the top of the swing arm, with some wriggling it will go on ok.
I run 16/48 and tops out 155kmh on speedo.

My 04 650 came with 16/40 and 18" rear (FS gearing and FE wheel). It didn't like top gear below 100kph(60mph). I had to move swing arm a little to remove the sprocket. replaced with 15th which bought top gear alive but lost the sensation of grunt out of the lower gears. went to 15/38 as an easy compromise.
Best I seen was 188kph on loose gravel (max speed recorder not speedo watching).

On a couple of my older bikes (FS) I put on 17t sprockets 8)
On the first one I took of just some 1mm on two of the teeth to get it by the frame. On the second one I aimed really good and gave it a whack with a rubber hammer (whats the word in English?). That shaved of just the right amount of paint for the frame to get it to fit. It is that cose but works fine.
