I would say stay away from Michelin. They switched the manufacture from Spain to Thailand, and the quality has gone down hill.

Alot of guys have been using the Maxxis SI's with good results.

i used to use metzeler unicross and loved them. can't remember why i quit using them. perhaps it had something to do with lack of availability, but it appears they are back on the market at a reasonable price.

How about trials in the back? Which do you recommend? I'd like to try that at least once, so I don't die stupid. And yes, I know they suck on the road.

I would supposed they work better than our off road tires, why?? the thread design looks like they have more traction on the road??

I have heard many folks complain about the Thai made Mich tires, I have not noticed a quality problem, but the S-12 seems a bit softer (nobs seem to roll and front end skates, and it may be wearing faster) than it used to be, I am now using the MH-3 front, but it may be too hard.

Le frog,
Trials tyres are compulsory for certain enduro competitions in UK. they are all right for low speed stuff but tend to get damaged easily. they are so soft. but if you can get hold of one it is worth a shot, just for the fun/experience!

As for michelin tyres...I get mine free so I use them. The Enduro comp is good, but the T63 is like a wet welly on roads! But Mud 400 is reinforcing the idea that anything made in Taiwan is *+~# or politely put "not up to European standards!"

I guess I should have been specific as my friend that runs Starcross' has not had an issue.
I used to run only S-12's The last couple sets wore out very quickly (knobbies flew off really quickly), I thought I was just getting more aggressive but then I read about the change in manu. and sure enough the last couple sets where from Thailand instead of Spain.

I have been have great luck with the Maxxis SI's.
