someone explain to me why, when someone joins the unofficial husaberg enthusiasts web site they want to sign their name as KTM this or husky that?

then we don't know peoples real name-or in my case (i don't live in a glass house this time!) why don't we write down our name that we can actually address each other as and at least nominally the country we come from?

trying to help a bloke the other day thinking he might be a yank-wrong! he is bulgarian!!! i mean how the bloody hell can we go on like that!

i hope schwim asks us all to put down our country (minimum) and leave room for us to respond to husa this or that simply as pete or steve or whatever.

all the Q's on "where do i get......?" and yet nobody knows where that person is from, a name we can address them by, or even the bloody bike they've got!

rant over

I agree. I have asked people to update their profile so that we can see where in the world (literally) they live.

It would help if people listed their bike in their sig line. But I do not, because I have had bikes stolen in the past and I do not wish to advertise my bikes on every post. The theives in the world have figured out how to get our personal information; name, address, telephone number and email. So it would be not very hard for someone to put the pieces together and make a list of bikes and addresses. Then stop by and relieve us of our toys.

Regarding the name issue, many people prefer the anonymousness of a screen name. When I first went online years ago, I used my first name and last initial as my screen name and I received alot of critism. I was told that I should pick a good screen name, that it is part of the vicarious living in a virtual world.

Many like to hide behind their screen name, it gives them the courage to flame others. They are cowards, but we tolerate them; it is part of the price that we pay for access to the internet and it's information.

Good question. When I started viewing (and contributing to) forums a few years ago, I thought I would ride TM's forever. I had been riding TM since '98 and was using that nic on a couple of sites and giving much needed advice to newbies that wanted an exotic. I use that same nic (more or less) on all sites. When the TM distributorship went awry in late '02 I got a 'berg, but never changed my nic. FYI, I still think that the TM is the highest quality bike on the market, but the prices are WAY to high. Hbg has the best handling 4T, that's why I own one.
BTW, what the heck is Taffy, a confection?

fair do's it's a free country but TM is a bit different to 'ilovemyktm' isn't it! TM is simple and it's a genuine nickname or call sign but my above example isn't is it!

splat, you've often said what you ride so why not in your sig? and your address can be found. look at me, no address but i once said my proper name   and i've given you all a link to my own website accidentally on which i encourage people to write to me at my home address!

now that bloke from bulgaria knows, he'll be around tomorrow! i also think splat, that your 'tea leaves' were nearer to home than this web site!

my mate had his katoom stolen and 3 months later it was filling up at the same fuel pump!

now TM you gotta brighten up a bit fella coz even i know what an iytie is, a pollack, a canook. all yanky terms for poles, and canadians etc. so have a stab?

clue;
singing
mint sauce
only about 8 sirnames covers an entire nation
singing
mining (or not)
more singing
how green is my valley-(that's a film BTW)
even more singing
the national iesteddford (lots of singing)
they don't speak english (especially when the english are about)
and they're from wales

any clues in there?

I've updated my profile for your sake Taffy.

I understand your rant, but someone may have many bikes, all of them they love. If someone has KTM in their name, that's their thing.

What's funny to me is someone that has a name like "YamahaRules" for years who later rides a Husaberg, falls in love, but then doesn't want to change their name for the sake of loosing online recognition or something. I have seen this happen many times. Sort of like getting a girlfriends name tattooed accross your back only to find out she's a total bitch later and your left with it :p

What is THAT?!

Supermototeam, that looks like a clip from some cheesy 70's movie.

Stop, it's making my eyes hurt!

Taffy,I do not know where that photo came from but it just for these sort of reasons that we all have and use these other names...yours sincerely Tom Jones...er.. I mean ...nsman

Well Taffy, two word why "Identity theft!" There are enough bad people on the net. I really don't need to give them any more info. I suppose you'd like me to give them my full name and address, with my mother’s maiden name, plus my SS number also? As for the 70 Marlin surname well that comes from my pre-Dirt biking Day's when the net was just getting started. I have a 19' 1970 Marlin jet boat (my other hobby) Not to be rude But I've been 70 marlin since the 286 processor. I can under stand this question coming from someone who doesn’t know the difference between chocolate and licorice!

did i detect a hint of malice in there marlin my little sweety pie! 8O 8O

you only have to say 'USA' as far as address goes and i didn't say give your full name i said give yourself a name we can call you when we see you!

so you wanna be known as marlin when we meet? fine!

but if under your nik it said

70 marlin
usa
fe501 '02
peter or yogi

what's the big deal?

do i really wanna say;

"hi ilovemyhusaberg i think you need to change the plug so next time you start it, ilovemyhusaberg-it'll run better".

i rest my case.

the difference between chocolate and liquorice is that you only spell chocolate one way but you can spell licorice either way!

am i getting close? coz i can't read your mind i'm afraid.

regards

Taffy

**** me, you're not still upset by that are you? :D :D :D

I surely hope you're not getting me mixed up with a taff are you, coz if you were, I think he'd be very insulted - especially since I'm mostly English

Since this event seems like it could result in years of psychoanalysis, let me clarify:-

we don't have good quality local, home made chocolate in the British Isles, it simply does not exist!.

When our chocolate makers decided they were going to start exporting our chocolate, the Europeans started a massive lawsuit against them under the guise of product mis-description - they said our chocolate didn't actually contain enough chocolate to be called chocolate. That's when it all turned to liquorice and we've never looked back :D

I do however recall, the words chocolate and candy used in the same sentence of one of the requests you wrote, so I took the very difficult executive decision to go a little leftfield and choose something that really is part of our constitution - love em or hate em - Liquorice Allsorts!

I'd guess by your response and long lasting bitterness, you're one of the latter camp - but you've got to admit, once you've tasted them, you'll never forget the experience :) :) :)

'tis a real shame however, that our sense of humour and language don't travel too well isn't it?

Cheers,
Simon

Pardon my humble view but … is the name important?

I have been told that God created Ford to keep some people away from Chevrolet. Why God created Husaberg I don’t know.

Free speech for the dumb

Taffy is right, there is no potential harm in posting your home town, state, & country in your profile. It would make is easier to assist people with jetting questions and hard start issues.

Adding your first name at the end of a post does make the communication more personal.

But Taffy, some people prefer to have that wall between them and the world, so you'll just have to accept that. We ride with people from local sites that never give their real names, not even at the rides. But then there are others, like yourself that prefer to be on a first name basis.

Your humor does indeed travel well and is greatly appreciated. It is like chocolate, or licorice, it is a personal taste issue. Or possibly an acquired taste. But either way it is something that can be appreciated only by the more discriminating afficiano.

Like a fine wine, it shouldn't be wasted on the children.

Taffy = Welsh = Tom Jones, get it ?

That, my friend, is the legendary ladies man and crooner Tom Jones. Who I believe aside from Taffy, is the only human being who I am aware of that is from Wales. Oh, and there's that Charles guy, but I think he's an export.

Cheers,

name

What is in a name? Surely someone would not name their kid after something like, let's say Peanuts, Fudge or Taffy? The poor child would have to go through so much teasing while growing up! It might make him an outcast, and cause him to do such things as ride a strange bike such as a Husaberg. And I still don't no why I ended up with four Husabergs and my name is Jeff!

RE: personal privacy on the net

Hi guys,

not to create a bitter debate, and as Taffy has told me before, I should just run the site, and not get into discussions(it's his version of tough love, I think), but some people here are running on false information.

If you've posted on a forum that logs your IP address(most do, nowadays), then you might as well use your name, address in your signature, because it's already readily available(check this link). With this information, people know your General location. With a little more work, they can get the billing name and address of the person who used that IP address at that particular time.

Online privacy is an oxymoron. It doesn't exist, and you should not lull yourself into a false sense of security by believing that it does. Everyone who uses it has an online written history, and there's not much we can do about it. I'm not saying you should put your credit card numbers in your signature, but Your first name as a gesture of friendliness is much less dangerous than using a forum.

thanks,

I bank at United Community in town, and my bottom sliding door doesn't lock, so you could get into my basement and empty me out.

And by all mean call me marlin or anything you like except late for dinner. All my other internet friends do.
