I am running the same post on KTM Talk to see how the two Brands compare? Some KTM 525s have gone 10.000 miles and a rummor of a 400 going 20.0000 miles.

2005 Husaberg FS650E

Currently at 2400 miles and 82 engine hours. No problems to report.

Hopefully my regiment of oil/filter changes and valve checks every 10 engine hours or 300 miles will keep the Berg happy and trouble free.

A guy here in Germany rode a FE 501 2000 for 20.000 km before overhauling the engine for the first time. (about 500 hours)
Riding about 150-180 hours without any problem or less problems seem to be usual.
A mate of mine has a 2003 FE 400 with 11.000km and about 200hrs and now he has the first reason to split the cases: a failed transmission bearing. The rest of the engine is still in good condition.

hribman

well you know why that transmission bearing went don't you? bet your mate doesn't admit to overtightening the chain!

hello,

i think hribman means my person with the mate of him!?

my 03 fe 400 has now over 7000 miles and about 245 engine hours.
after gone over 6600 miles/235 engine hours the bearing behind the clutch failed. so we had to open the engine because the cage of the bearing
was distributed at the engine.

3,000th post!

greetings artus

just having fun guessing how a gearbox bearing goes.....!

i thought it was bound to be the output bearing.

enschuldigung sie bitte!

2002 650SM 10,500 miles 195 hours or so.

Cam bearing and conrod failure at 9600 miles / 178 hours, then rebuilt.

Now she's pumping out 65bhp so I don't think she will last quite that long this time but lets see :D

my 02 300exc is at 11,500 miles (all off-road, mostly singletrack). did 1 top end and 1 re-ring so far. it's good to see some folks are getting excellent durability out of the big 4-strokes too. that makes me fear getting one a little bit less.

11,500 mils out of a 2 stroke with just a top end change

My 2002 Berg 650's maintenance history goes: Oil change every 5 hours, SS oil filter clean every 10, cam chain change after 60 hours along with rockers and cam bearings. Valve clearances every 30 hours or whenever she gets hard to start.

Yes, but I had a catastropic transmission main shaft bearing failure at 8203 miles, 299.8 hours. I had to do a complete rebuild due to a piece of bearing retainer getting caught in the reed valve, allowing a lot of steel from the bearing ball retainer to back flush into the engine. I installed a connecting rod kit, piston, valves, guides, all bearings. While doing that I replaced the crank shaft main bearing on the drive side with a roller bearing. I should have replaced the valve springs because one of the intake valve springs failed 1474 miles, 47.6 hours, later.

Regards,

Joe

I bought my 1997 FX501E new and had it a while before I made it street legal, including an ATK speedo with non resettable odometer. At 4000 miles on the odo, est. 5k including non odo use, I rebuilt the cyl. head and replaced the pin bushing. I also doweled the cyl. to the cases and the head to the cyl. I rode and raced the bike a lot more before I sold it; The current owner reports over 10,000 miles on the speedo and a lot more with a busted speedo cable and still no problems. He does say that it's unfresh now and could use some work but still runs fine. Ran good when I took it apart originally too. Figure about 13,000 miles and never quit running.

I wonder how many people with CRF's can say that?

I have over 200 hours and about 5000 miles on an '04 250rfs. It has needed intake valve replacement about every 100 hours. Right now the hunk of junk is just sitting in the garage, as it won't run due to the intake valves being worn out. I spend as much time or a little more, working on it, as I do riding it. I am not very happy with it.

27 hours in 8 weeks on my 06 Fe450e , starts like a dream, eats pencils for breakfast. H-berg
