WHICH WAY TO INSTALL WATER PUMP SEAL?

Hi:
I´ll make the story short. The water pump impeller got screwed (who knows why'). Which was maiking the water boil all the time. I changed the impeller with a new one. Once it was donde, I started the bike and coolant was coming out the water pump through the seal (another problem maybe not related with the first one). I replaced the seal. Me and my mechaninc saw that the seal was installed (from factory) facing the wrong side. I mean it was installed with the open side (the side with the spring) facing the motor instead of facing the impeller or the part where the water was going to go through.
I saw a couple of forums here where they said the it should be installed the opposite way than it comes from the factory, the open side where the spring goes facing the impeller so I did that.
I haven´t try the bike for a long ride yet, but I did started yesterday and it was fine, no water coming out.
If you have more comments about the proper side of the seals let me know.
I will tell you if my longer ride keeps me with no problems at all since I thing we made the right decision.
The question is: ¿Why does the fabric send the bikes with the seal installed the wrong way?

The spring must be on the side of the highest pressure. Don't know what the newer bikes have, but in the older bikes, the pressure in the water side was always higher. Hence the spring must face the impeller in these ones.
