Which tires?

I'm pretty good on the asphalt, but I'm not too good in the dirt yet. I'm using the Maxxis Goldspeed Precut slicks which are awesome on the asphalt, but I need at tire for the front that will provide better grip on the front in the dirt. The Avon Azaro Supermoto tire looks like it may do the trick, but the writeup for it suggests that it may only be for the rain(?). Has anyone tried it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Ray

I'm not an expert on the dirt. But I don't think it would be the right way for you to change your front tire.
In dry weather conditions I'm (and most riders withe me) allways chose a slick-tire. If nessesary I cut it in the midle for better grip when braking. If the asfalt is very slippery from dirt etc. you can ride with a rain tire in front, but in dry conditions you will overheat it in notime.

For you (and me :)) I think practice is the only way.

Hi Ray,

The road legal Avon supermoto rain tyre is very good even on dry asphalt. It provides really good wet and dry grip even when cold but it also lasts pretty well. It might give you some more grip on the dirt but as with all of these road biased tyres, none of them are great on dirt, which is half the fun of it :D

I'm a fan of the Avon sm tyres and became very impressed with their Distanza lineup also, but that's just my opinion.

Hope this helps,
Simon

Goldspeed

Try the new Maxxis/Goldspeed intermediate, its a slick with a rain tyre pattern for better grip in the dirt.
Also the old intermediate race from Goldspeed works well, i use to ride it on tracks with alot of gravel.

Thanks guys. I didn't even know the intermediate Goldspeed was available. I'll try either that or the Avon.
