Where to find big tank 98 FX600E?

Using this bike more and more (only decent legal DS bike I've got) but it absolutely MUST have a larger tank .... any hints?

Keep an eye on ebay. The big tanks come up very rarely but there was a company in California that made an auxiliary tank that fit under the seat and held maybe a gallon. I've seen them on bikes being sold on Craigslist on occasion and maybe you can contact the seller and see about buying the tank separately. Nice welded aluminum construction.

The under seat tank won't quite fit as yours is the e-start model and that where the battery is. Husaberg made a huge accessory tank that came stock on the FR model(s) and also made an auxiliary tank that takes the place of the side number plate. I have both of these and will post up some pics in the near future for those too new or young to remember. Acerbis makes some universal tanks that mount to the forks and rear fender that might do the trick for you.

I have a big tank that I used a few times on my 98 FE501. Was/is for sale. Sale to UHE buyer fell through for some reason, ie no payment, and its still packaged up ready for shipping.

Comes with all plumbing and pump, I think supposed to be 19 litres. My 501 gets little use, and no big rides these days so it just takes up space in the shed. PM if interested, more pics available.

If selling abroad, pull that tank back out the box and stick it on the exhaust tailpipe of a running (but static) vehicle for 15 minutes. that will purge the tank.

Hello Eric

how about emailing me some more photos of those decals of yours!

regards

Careful here !!! -

This will purge the tank of atmospheric air and therewith oxygen, as is commonly stated to help before welding fuel tanks. However no professional welder will do that except in an emergency due to risk of explosion. Note: That danger is also From the hot exhaust gas, not just the welding.

Also - How hot is the exhaust gas? What temperature will the plastic fuel tank take before deforming?

"Purging" with exhaust gas won't do anything about any possible fuel residue - it will not clean the tank! - and you will be routing a poisonous and potentially flammable gas mixture into a vessel that may contain flammable gases.

It IS NOT a risk-free procedure, and I ask you to consider the statement on purging presented here carefully before following it, both with respect to side-effects and the intended result.

The tank will then probably pick up atmospheric air again over time as it is not air-tight as far as I know.
