When the farmer can´t get milk

Here´s my beef:
Why do I have to wait sometimes for 1-2 weeks for Husa parts in Sweden when I can get Yama parts in half the time? Down-time kills me! Kills the brand name! I know Karlströms stock more parts than most, but whenever they´re out of stock, or anyone else for that matter, the call goes out to Austria and it takes forever. I don´t know what I´m bitching about, KTM? Maybe it´s DHL? Sucks either way. The dealers say they are promised parts in 3 days, but so far 7 seems the average.

I KNOW AIRFREIGHT TRAVELS IN EXCESS OF 10MPH!!

Let´s just hope someone important is listening...

I don´t know where else to *****. Still, mine is a good one.

HI Aspen,

Sorry to hear that you are having that kind of problem. That is one of the reasons a lot of americans are afraid of buying a Husaberg in the first place. I had sold my 94 501 to a friend and he had a problem with the trans, and was told by the local dealer that there was no North American Distributer at that time, this was a couple of years back. I was able to get the part from another dealer in 3 days for him, but, it freaked him out enough that he sold the bike and bought a XR650. Even though I assured him at the time that I could get him parts from other dealers in the US or outside the US by using this site.

It probably has more to do with how much money your local shop has, and the ability to stock parts. I have been having very good luck with Motoxotica over here in California. If you are in great need, perhaps you get the part from him. How strange would that be? Or perhaps you can find another dealer in Europe who, like Anne & Dan at Motoxotica, does stock parts for your bike.

Hope this helps,

I agree 100% with what Dale posted.

But you have to be aware of what the import duties are in each country.

As an example, I sent my SEMs stator to Portugal for rewinding, and I had to pay $46 EU import duty to them because I declared the value to be $150 US on the Postal Express Declaration paperwork. I should have put $10 US or maybe even 'gift' because it really was worthless in its current condition.

There was no duty to get it back into the US.

Regards,

Joe

Joe could you post a review on the rewound stator?

What was the cost of the operation and what benefit did you get in return?

Is the bike easier to start now?

LeFrog,

I wasn't going to, but here it is:

The stator CDI charge coils R-B, and the Pulse Trigger coil G-B were rewound with #38 gage wire, the OEM windings were # 41 gage and are the reason they fail. They are just too fragile.

The rewound stator only puts out 19.2 VAC at E-start crank over speed and will not allow my 2000 FE 501E to start on the button. It also makes it more difficult to start with the foot, you really have to kick it over fast to get a decent spark for starting.

One half of the battery charging coils on the stator (1 of the 2 Yellow leads) has to be left disconnected to the full wave rectifier because the pulse trigger with the #38 gage winding is now sensitive to the EMI being radiated from the stator coils adjacent to the pulse trigger coil. This cuts out 1/2 of the wattage available for lighting etc. The engine would not run over 3500-3800 rpm without misfiring and stopping. I tried everything I could to shield the pulse trigger coil, but there just is not enough room to get shielding between the trigger and the lighting coils.

Here is the cost breakdown:

$120 EU - Rewinding fee, including return postage to the US

$46 EU - Portugal Customs Import Duty

Sum total in US $ was $211.28 US

Wire transfer fee $45 US

Grand total = $256.28 US

No it was not worth it for me!

But the bike runs, and will probably never let me down with an ignition failure like it already had 3 times with OEM SEMs stator failures.

Regards,

Joe

No he does not use Papal. His workmanship is good, #38 wire just does not allow enough turns on the poles to develope the 25-30 VAC we need to start the SEMs equipped bikes.

Sorry I edited out my post, where I asked about payment.

Just not worth it, thanks for taking the fall for us...

Happy new year to you and the lady.

I find it interesting that the #38 wire does not give enough turns with the available flux to generate the proper trigger voltage, but has now become sensitive to EMI, very interesting indeed.

Hi Aspen consider yourself lucky I had to wait 1 1/2 month for swingarm
bearings BMG didnt have it in stock 7 days would be allright
Whats the scoop with Karlstrom motor he used to have wed sight but its
gone
Happy new year

Month and a half for bearings! You could think we´re driving one-off prototypes! Insane. I guess I am lucky then...

Karlströms is still on the web here. Still probably the only on-line dealer out there with a searchable parts database (prices in SEK, today appx eight to a dollar, saves many phonecalls...).
I try however to support my semi-local dealer for the most part.

And a happy new year to you too!

Aspen that was the intent to support local dealer but when BMG showes
zero on inventory I sometimes had to call Karlstroms to get parts in
reasonable time parts avalibilty has become better over here and
hopefully it will get even better
PS you live in a beautiful part of Sweden
