Hello,
I am from Vilnius, Lithuania. Your email address I find at webpage www.husaberg.org I registered at this website.
Before I have ridden Kawasaki KLR 250 and Honda XR 600. Now one guy to offer me to buy Husaberg 501 of 1997. That's why I decided at firs to ask advice of somebody who ride it. I do not know nothing about this model.
I like to ride at motocross track and probably after some time will participate at motocross races. Do you think this bike is ok for motocross? Is it difficult to find spare parts for this bike?
By the way I am 38 years old and may be it is too late for motocross races.

Hi Jonas and welcome to the site.

A 97 501 could make a great bike for getting into motocross. Plenty of power, light weight and good handling. You should look the bike over real well before deciding to buy. See if it starts well, ask the guy what kind of maintenance he has done on it over the years. One thing you should know right off is that a Husaberg is a high performance and fairly high-maintenance bike. In 97 they added an orbital oil pump and oil filter to the engine which is a bonus over earlier years.

Not sure what parts availability is like in your part of the world. Here in the states, parts are easy to come by (for the most part).

Do you know what model it is?
FE (enduro)
FX (desert)
FC (motocross)

By the way, I had a 1997 FE 400 and enjoyed many hours of fun!

Hi Tengu:

How are things in Lithuania? So glad you happened upon this website and became a member. It is really cool to hear from people all over the world.

The 1997 Husaberg is the first year they added a "orbit" oil pump to the motor. All Husabergs from 1997 to 2000 are considered by some to have been the most reliable years made. I personally have a 1997 FX600 electric start model and have had very good results with it. It is brutally fast and great for the wide open southern California desert. The 501 is also a tiger.

Really the deciding factor is your local dealer. They are your life line. If they have experience working on these bikes that would be a plus. Also how many hours are on the bike and has the scheduled maintenance been preformed? Take a look at the owners manual to find the maintenance schedule. Regular oil changes are extremely important.

Before you make a decision I would hang around this website for awhile and read everything. I believe Dale Lineaweaver to be the most knowledgeable Husaberg tuner in the world and he is a regular here.

Thanks for dropping in,

Husabutt
