What's the next thing the UHE needs?

Hi there everyone,

I'm wrapping up the admin side of the classifieds and am almost done with the automation of user donation ranks, and will be ready to start on the next big thing for the UHE.

There's a story my dad used to tell me about a guy that locked himself in his garage and designed the most amazing device he had ever dreamed of; a small motor with a long arm and a rotating head on the end that string attached to. You just ran the motor and the rotating wheel cut your weeds without you having to bend over. Once finished, he started showing it to his friends, one of which said "hey, they sell that at Sears Robuck". In my father's version of the story, the man then went and hung himself. I think my dad was in a dark place at the time as other versions just had him then go design the windshield wiper.

Hey, that's not my point. My point is this. Before I realized how much the classifieds were missed, I was working on a downloads system to replace the original. A few days ago, I went to husaberg.com and found every download we have ever had and then some, which leads me to believe that a downloads system isn't nearly as important as it used to be.

Before the site was replaced, we also had a fantastic web links system that Husabutt populated. That's my vote for what should come next(I've saved all the link info from the old database).

I'd like to hear from others concerning what you'd like to see on the site next. Web links, vin decryptor, dealer locator and reviews, dealer and vendor related site enhancements, these are all things that I've thought of in the past, but before I work on anything, I'd really like to hear everyone's suggestions as I don't want to invent the weed whacker.

Let me know what you want to see at the UHE and we'll go from there. Thanks to everyone that helps out!

thanks,

Hi Shwim

I'm very new on this, but would like to give you my opinion.

The link thing is a great idea because there probably a lot of interesting things out there..
And it was god that, if I found a interesting link, I could send it to you.

But the download and upload thing, in my opinion would be great specialy for the ones that have old bikes like me.
I have my files organized by years, with photos of the bike of that year and documents related to the year.
I would like to share what I have with some one that needs, for example I have the owners 97 and 98 in paper and could scan it with good quality and upload it, to someone that needs it.
For instance I would like to have a copy with decent quality of 98 and 99 repair manuals, also the 01-03 repair manual with good quality.
Those are examples...
Also its true that you can download most of the things for the 04+ bikes from husaberg.com

Its just my opinion.

ZAGA

A very good point Zaga and when the downloads system existed in the past, many members went to the trouble to make better quality scans of existing pdf's(all of which I still have).

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond and I look forward to others' opinions.

thanks,

It's already in the works. Granted, its still in beta, but here we are in training:

I respectfully request that the web-links be reinstated.

It weighs on my conscience that after you put so much time into the links, they disappeared. To me it does seem the most beneficial. I was curious to see what the others thought though.

no more downloads?

It's not that you have to choose what will exist, I just wanted to know what people wanted to see first. Since creating the features is a one-man-band thing, it takes quite a while for them to materialize :)

I liked the old map that showed where each UHE member was located.

Dale

Although I liked the idea, it was implemented terribly. I would like to integrate something like Google maps in a better fashion. I'll definitely look into it.

just a coupla small things

when you've uploaded the screen script is unviewable in black and the screen never changes, just says it's permanently uploading even though, if I open the site on a fresh page all the photos are already up and usable!

when you open the gallery front page it offers you the list of pages but you can only have one. you have to go into the gallery to get the choice of pages - one click to fr for my fat finger!

perhaps better words than 'add item'? how about 'upload to site'

It's also a ******* for telling me what my signature name is when signing in. it insists on using my site name even after I've repeatedly deleted it. it overrides you!

I think the sites in pretty good shape so it won't be long before someone screws with an idea again.

regards

Taffy

Noted sir and will see what I can do, but I don't understand the following:

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying that your browser has remembered the incorrect username information and that you have to change it every time you login?

That's why we have you, sir. To tell us when the site is going to fail and be reduced to 11 users because of a poorly chosen forum category or a change in the terms of service. :D

thanks,

yes, my login is close to 'Taffy' and even after typing it in the bloody thing is predicting and changing all I've written. that is why I had so much trouble and why i came back to you for help.

Taffy, I know I risk exposing to you how slow I really am, but your login is your username on the site. If your browser has saved the incorrect login info, I can help you with clearing that info, but it deletes all your private info, so if you use your browser to remember all your logins, you might be completely lost once its memory has been wiped.

Ah! right, trust me to be different! yes it is different but don't change a sausage. I'm used to it now!

Taffy
