Hey guys!Got a question, just above the intake boot on my 98 fe 600 there is a lip on the cylinder. In that lip there is a hole that runs all the way through it.Checking for air leaks I sprayed some wd 40 in there and it seemed seal something up causing a very high but clean idle.I plugged it temporarily to see what would happen and it seemed to run cleaner, tinkering with the mixture screw and idle screw caused a backfire and blew out my plugs.Havent had a chance to pull it apart, just wondering what it is ,if I need to plug it or if something belongs in there I dont know about. The parts manual doesnt help. Thanks guys! Werner

you aren't talking about the fuel tank pump vacuum fitting are you? :? do you have the enduro tank with the long right side and one petcock on the left? or the fc style w/ 2 petcocks? if using an fc tank and the enduro engine, the vacuum fitting needs to be plugged. on my 400, the fitting is beside the intake. i don't remember where the one was on my 98 600.

no,its not the fuell pump line, directly above the intake,it is part of the cylinder.I really think it has no purpose, once I get back from the Keys I will look into it a little more,I gotta warm up first!

If you are with reference to a small boss with a hole 90 degrees to the intake port it is a provision for an upper engine stay intended to help reduce vibration. Strange enough it was never used.

So this would allow air to enter the carb without going through air filter ? Is it on later models like my 99 ?

No air is allowed into the inlet via the lug and hole.

Perhaps Werner has a slight intake manifold leak, hence the idle change whilst dousing the area with the likes of WD40, etc.

The manifold / head mating area is often a source of minor inlet leaks.

Cheers.

yes Dale ,the hole makes sense now,I swear,I spray a little wd-40 down that holeit has an effect on the idle.I will take it apart tomorrow and have a look see.
