i'm only playing devil's advocate here ok? but you need to remind people of what you ride and what you've done to it to get to where you are ok?

try not to start a new thread - especially when the plot thickens - otherwise we dunno where the fukawi.

Space sir
Foget that magic button on a cold engine, you wanna be using your left leg only, until it's warm.
Does it work ? If not then download the 'trouble starting' guide... that usually does the trick.
If your problem appears to be something above and beyond what we on here may describe as normal problems, then we are all here to help. There are many great references within this site that you would benefit from reading as a first step.

Hi space
Don't do your valves on the loose side. I don't know the method you use but make sure they're not too loose.
Use the manual decomp while cranking and see if it turns over OK.
If it does then check the auto decomp is actually working and has enough lift. Should have about 0.9mm (36 thou) or so measured with verniers on the lobe.
IMHO the auto decomp is the root of all evil when it comes to hard starting.

Well i have just checked the decomp and there is very slight wear at about 0.5 mm, is this enough to cause problems? and how can it be solved? build with weld?

Space
You need the 04 auto decomp device...re-adjust your valves - problem solved ! Well that one anyway !
Details in 'the doc'.

RE: Re: RE: What to check next? (electric start problem)

is that cheap and easy to fit? or can i not use weld?

RE: Re: RE: What to check next? (electric start problem)

No, not expensive
About 35 pounds.
Welding .....If your very very good !

im not bad, would have to tidy it up with a dremmel

What about a defective torque limiter just like my 04? It sounds like the problem I had and when the torque limiter was changed everything was great. I had first accepted the fact that my E-start was more a RE-starter but after the torque limiter replacement, it's not true anymore.

Check the tech bulletin in my gallery.

What and where is the torque liminter? the estart will turn engine over just dont think it is fast enough and struggling against the compression

I might have over looked something here some where if so please bear with me. Are all electrical contacts clean and well mounted, the ground wires as well? Will the starter spin faster with the sparkplug out? If not the stater clutch is worn out. Usually the problem is a bad electrical contact. Hope this helps.

The torque limiter is what is in between the output shaft of your starter and the free wheel hub. The torque limiter is set to slip between 10 Nm to 20 Nm; under 10 Nm you will feel that your starter has not enough power to turn your engine but it is in fact just slipping. The upper limit is to prevent your engine to be damaged in case of a back fire during start-up. If your bike starts with the kick starter than look at this torque limiter. By opening the clutch cover (follow the instruction in your repair manual) you can check the torque that it will slip by putting your torque limiter in a vise and check with a torque wrench. Make sure you bleed air from your cylinder when putting back coolant and also make sure you don't pull your kick starter shaft when you pull the cover. You will need a fresh clutch cover and water pump gasket. Again check my gallery for the tech bulletin from Husaberg.

Hope that this will fix your problem. Cheers, FRED.

What about a spot of weld on the swing weight just below this guys finger so that it sits off the cam shaft in the resting postition a bit more, therefore compensating for the wear and lifting the decomp?

Yeah thats what some guys do if they're worn or you can do as Ady suggests and just replace it.
The later model is better by all reports. Not sure why.

try this

Ok, I bought an 2002 501 and was having the same issues starting the bike. I had it in the shop and everything was done, new auto-de comp, valves, timing, battery....ran great but would not start with the electric unless it was already hot. I then went from a 10w-50 to a 5w-40 oil and now it starts like a champ hot or cold. The manual suggest 5w-50 but I couldn't find any from Motorex so I was told to try the 5w-40....both myself and my friends we amazed at the change, just from changing the oil.....suggest you give this a try. With the Husaberg there are just alot of moving parts at start up and the thinner oil helps....
