Just got the old girl back together complete with Honda tappet screws (thanks Dale), she started up dutifully as she does, no choke at all. But theres always that rattle there that having had 3 failures already always scares me to death!! the last time i had the engine rebuilt by DCR dave said he'd had the bike fired up and she sounded sweet.... but when i got her home she sounded noisy to me with all sorts of mechanical shenanigans seeming to be happening in there. My point is... not being a berg owner for long and not having heard any other early bergs running.... what is she supposed to sound like?? am i worrying over the rattling for no reason?? is this a normal berg feature?

my bikes cam gear could always be heard when i first got it. not just tappety but lots of smaller noises and all from the top end.

when i swopped the original '01 cam for a '53' she sounded the same.

but when i put a lineaweaver cam in it sounded really quiet.

the cam frlanks make the valve lift very rough/harsh/brutal. but now the OEM cam has a softer lift profile and all ios well inb the garden again!

so get used to it or swop out the cam for an '08 (OEM cam) or go to dale. his cam is very, veryu good BUT you have to send him yer old one first so it's more VOR time.

regards

If you are positive you have the proper valve clearance and the cam chain tensioner is doing its job, then you should be O.K., thats the noise they make.

Otherwise, you will just have to make an audio recording for us to listen to. :)

I describe them as sounding like a broken or worn out dishwasher :D It seems like you can hear all types of whirling bits and bobs in there.
I have decided over the years that if it runs good and the oil is free from debris.....it's all good.
If your running a skid plate the noise seems to amplify as well.

It sounds like nothing else.

So if it does sound like something else, then something is wrong.
