What should I buy?

I'm new so "hey how's it going?" But, any way I'm selling my Triumph Speed Triple and getting back into the dirt scene, and I'm wondering what I should buy. This means I want everyones opinion here. Before I moved into the street scene I had a long line of older Huskies i.e. 87 and older (the swedish ones). I'm a die hard Husqvarna fan, and I would like another one. I'm looking at a 96 wxc 610, but I'm concerned about parts being available. (If you've ever owned one you understand.) I'm also looking at a 00 Husaberg FC501 and an 02 Cannondale C440. Yes, I want something different from the normal Jap bike, obviously, I own a Triumph. I know Husaberg is just a bunch of disgruntle Husky engineers who didnt want to leave Sweden, so I'm some what partial to the Bergs. What is everyones experience with any of these bikes. I do like the idea of the Dale being fuel injected. I live in TX, so the dealer network for any of these bieks is almost non existant any way. I need some opinions, and I do realize that most of them will be pro Berg and anti everything else. Tanks for your input. Jacob

Hi there Jacob,

I can't tell you from personal experience, but everyone I've talked to with newer gen Huskies says that getting parts for them is a piece of cake. BigBob on this site and berger own a couple between them, and neither of them go without when they break.

As for what you should buy, that's really up to what you want to do with it. As a general rule, people consider the Berg when they want something stupid fast and don't mind(or even enjoy) what some consider the strict maintenance schedule that they require.

If you're trail riding, and not riding competitively, the Berg will do it, but so will almost anything else, right? I don't think you'll get a valuable answer until you let us know your wish list for the bike and your riding style.

thanks,

I was expecting that question. I'm not a racer. I play out run with any one I find on the trail, but I'm not going to evter official races. What kind of riding will I do? It will be a mix. I've had MX bikes and I've had Enduros, and it doesn't make any difference to me as to what I get next. My Huskies always out ran my cousins newer Hondas regardless of the setting. Huskies and Bergs are knowns to have a lot of power and really perform when needed, but the Dale has full Ohlins suspension. I'll be in the wide open and on sinlge track. I guess I'm looking for more of a quality stand point and parts availability opinion, because all 3 of those makers make different bieks for different settings. I want everyones pros and cons on each brand.

I sold a 1994 Husky two days ago after riding it for 3 years with a huge grin all the time, and yesterday I picked up a 2000 Husaberg FC 501 and test rood it for a little bit, so I can comment. The Husky is a woods and desert monster, period, smooth big grunt power, and with 6 gears flys in the open terrain. The suspension or at least mine was spongy which worked great on the trails, but on the track is where it had it's short comings. Being relatively light for a bike that big at 260 lbs or so, it seemed much bigger on track conditions. In the straights the power was always there, even if you were in the wrong gear, but the turns are slower. As far as parts, I never needed any, I watched as all my buddies on KTM's, Honda's, Yamaha's etc were always tinkering and replacing things, and doing aerobic wotkouts to start their machines, as I would first kick the 610 to life countless times. I even dunked it completely under in the Green River in Moab, to where you couldn't see the bike (bad misjudgment on my part), pulled it out, turned it over, pumped out the water, new plug, first kick- ROAR!! Many people say this - but the 610 engine IS bombproof,it's legendary. Now to the Husa' - it's scary. It's like a mtn. bike with a f16 turnbine. At a feathery 224 lbs, it feels more like 40lbs and simply accelrates like crotch rocket Hayabusa, it shold be called a HUSA-BUSA. The power is very abrupt and will take some getting used, almost violent in nature but exhilerating all the same, mine has 6 speeds and a really cool ignition timing switch to go from torquey in low, to hair on fire in high by changing the ignition timing. On the track with a good rider, it would a top contender in any race. Don't know alot about the C;dale, only that it was years ahead of it's time, almost to afault, and they had a lot of bugs to work out, which they or ATK may have and parts were the price of some homes. Hope this helps, good luck.
