What mount to use with scotts damper on 09?

I have a scotts damper and would like to mount it to my 09 husa when i get it.

Dont want to raise my bars anymore than 20mm so guessing that an underbar option is out of the question?

Anyone know what post and bar clamp i can use to mount my scotts damper, with my bars in the #3 position and 20mm bar raisers?

Thanks

I am in the process of fitting my Scotts damper with under bar kit.

I already had the damper, from 2004 KTM 250. I used the existing post and had to grind the mounting ring to suit the twin bars of the berg frame. The submount did not suit as the billet clamps are different to the older models (KTM). The damper mounting holes are to forward by approx 5mm and to low by approx 10mm.

The top triple clamp (berg) is the same part number as the 2007 KTM 450 sx-f.

The berg clamp has KTM machined in it, funny that. I will either order the mount to suit or machine my own, this will depend on price.

The BRP submount raises the bar about 25mm. You can purchase older (KTM) bar mounts to lower the bar height in combination to the submount, to keep the underbar damper setup.

Hope this helps.

I have some BRP submount adaptors for sale if they are of any use, check out the classifieds for a picture

Spiderpig, the factory post from berg part # 812-12-005-344 is 169.99 retail.
The 08 scotts under bar mount is only 26mm tall & works on the 09 with scotts damper
without any mods! If the extra 6mm bothers you machine to your like!

I have the Scotts underbar clamp mount and it requires some grinding to clear welds on my Husaberg that are located more to the sides than they were on my 2008 KTM 450 XCR-W.

Thanks for the replys,

Hi BLC392, I'm in canberra aswell, noticed your username from DBW.

I like your idea about using the older KTM bar mounts, but i thought when using the BRP submount it is a complete unit that bolts to the upper tripple clamp and doesnt use the ktm lower bar mount? Or are you talking about the upper triple clamp?

Have only seen a BRP one in the flesh that i used to have on my YZ450 but from memory i didnt think much machining would be possible to lower the submount without the damper fouling on the upper triple clamp. Need to check one out.

The bar mounts on the berg are taller than my 04 KTM. The distance between the bar and damper is about 10mm (berg), whereas, on the 04 KTM the difference was about 3mm, so there is a little bit of room to play with.

I'm in the process of making just the damper mount and then allowing for spacers to get the bar height to suit me. The damper mount only has to be high enough for the pinion retaining nut to clear the steering head retaining bolt. This allows for a greater scope of bar heights that is independant of the damper mount.

The OEM bar mounts sit on top of the BRP SUB mount.

I've contacted shock treatment regarding a sub mount to suit the berg, but was told that the BRP SUB mount that suits the 07/08 KTM will not fit the berg, something about the tripple clamp being different???. I am struggling to believe this as the berg top tripple clamp part number is the same as the KTM part number. The berg clamp even has KTM machined in it, funny that.

Are you starting from scratch with your mount or modding a older BRP one etc?

I find it easier to start from scratch than muck around modding an old one. The 04 damper mounting holes are to forward by approx 5mm and to low by approx 10mm.

I'm in the middle of a training course, so I have to wait for the weekends to do any sort of bike work. The joys of 101 projects I guess.

I will keep you up to date with progress.

BLC392,
I have a BRP top triple clamp with risers and sub mount for scotts damper all in one unit which i took off my 08 530 exc-r. I was intending to fit this to my FE570 as the dealer said they are the same, but this is the reply i had from BRP :

' The triple clamp and sub mount that you have for your 08 530 exc-r will not work on the Husaberg. The new style triple clamps are adjustable between 18 mm and 20mm offset. This requires a different style triple clamp than the one that you have. As for the bolt on tower, i am not sure what the new frame looks like so i couldnt tell you if you could modify a KTM tower to fit. '

Now, i appreciate that the crown/head tube on the berg is different so i would either need to modify the bolt on tower or wait for the husaberg one from scotts but i fail to see why the triple clamp will not fit and for what reason. I dont see that the variable offset has anything to do with the triple clamp fitment, or am i missing something?

NKW,

The difference maybe in that you have a BRP top triple clamp that will not suit the berg. I still find this confusing as the ktm is also 18-20mm adjustable. I can't see the difference between ktm and berg as the top triple clamp is the same, irrespective of the 18-20 adjustment.

The underbar mount reference points, (the centre of the damper lever and the centre of the headstem bolt has to be the same) to ensure that the damper and steering follow the same arc.

Does anyone have a BRP SUB mount to suit the 07-08 KTM SX range? If you do, could you do some measurements on the location of the bar and damper holes? This will put this to rest.

I've finished the training course so it will be full steam ahead in the bike.

Ok, i have just fitted 07/08 BRP triple clamp sub mount and scotts damper and it all fits the fe570 perfectly. I even fitted my original tower bracket with a bit of grinding here and there to seat it down.

For anyone who is interested...........

I will be dropping my 570 off at Scott's next week for them to spec out the tower/pin mount, and the sub mount. I will keep you posted.

I've made the underbar mount. It raises the bars 25mm, this height suits me.
