Just bought My first Berg. History of Husky and Yams. Wanted a DS bike to ride with my GS friends. Did not want to give up four stroke single or susp. travel or light weight, etc. Bought it because of low first and high sixth gears. 1997 FE 501 E--- Vin # YU7FE5018V0001015 - engine # 220046X1--- BUT---Series or Model # FX501E???---
CS now 15 Tooth, Rear spr.now 50Tooth. Now ,I see that the engine may have been changed as the original cert of origin says that the engine # is 1151022. I wanted a first gear ratio of 14/33-2.357 and a sixth of 27/20-0.741.
I was thinking of going to a 48 tooth rear sprocket so as to keep the revs lower while on pavement between gravel/dirt and those BMWs are moving out. BUT, I love to play trials too. Can anybody help me get this straight without going all through the tranny?

OK, Ill try again ,and only ask one question. My FE 501E has had the engine replaced. The new number is 220046X1. What transmission do I have? When was it built? I will happy to do the research if only somebody will give me a link or address to start.

I don't know if the information you seek is readily available. I am not aware of any decoder for the engine numbers that is available to the public.

One question for you, or more of a comment. Can you ride the bike in the current configuration or not?? Numbers are just what they are...numbers. Usually playing with the sproket sizes will get you what you think you need, or at least close to it.
