What is the difference between a radial tube and bias ply?

Nobody had heard of a radial tube when I went to the local bikeshop... I ordered the only radial tubes I could find, Bridgestone, but still curious as to the difference.

Anyone? :bounce:

Thanks,
DB

Radial v. bias tires - sure.

Tubes? Inner tubes?

I didn't know there was a difference.

I know that there are heavy duty tubes, etc., but I can't think of what the difference would be between a 'radial' tube and a 'bias' ply tube as those are terms that apply to the construction of a tire, not a tube.

A tube is a simple tube of rubber - there is no composite construction to them like a tire where the cords run or anything like that.

It could be like the left handed hammer or when you send the apprentice to ask for a long weight :D :D

Copy that. Light bulb repair kit...

Except that Bridgestone offers them in pretty much sumo size. I'll see when they arrive if there is anything noteworthy.

A tube is not a tube.

First, I ordered the tubes because both the front and rear tubes developed leaks almost instantly when I put on new tires. Both were non-radial tubes. One had a pin hole on a seam the other had a star shaped blow out. Both had held air in the old tires. There were no signs of pinching.

The radial tubes have seams that spiral around the tube. Standard tubes have seams that intersect at 90 degrees, running the full diameter and cross sections.
