What happened to my clutch fliud?

Ok wierdest thing happened to me. I have my 08fe450 in the garage for about 2 weeks and I go to move it and the clutch has no traction. I look in the master and there is no fluid. I look where it was stored no leak spot. I look on the bottom of the engine near the bleeder at all of the fittings I cannot find the missing oil. WHERE DID IT GO!? Anyhow my big dilema is now I cannot find out what to put in it. What kind of fluid do I put in an 08fe450 clutch cylinder?

Fluid likely leaked past the slave cylinder seals into the crankcase. It happens, just not very often.

Pull the clutch slave off and have a look for signs of leakage. If it's leaking you will have to rebuild or replace it. It's not likely the small amount of mineral oil will damage the engine. You could just change the oil to be safe.

I think I will start by refilling it and seeing if it happens again. if it comes up I will take it apart and replace what I need to.

It's leaking into the engine past the slave. I've had it happen twice with KTM's. The piston on both slave cylinders had worn so badly that the oil was going around the o-rings. Had to buy all new slave's both times.

RIght on thats what BOSS said. He told me I could take the slave apart and replace the O around the piston. $1.50 ring. I will give that a shot when my Blood Gets here

You can use mineral oil in there instead of the magura blood, it's much cheaper. Just don't use baby oil as it has other additives in it that make it a harder pull on the clutch lever. You want the pure mineral oil. I have also used 5 weight fork oil before with success. I had previously changed the o-rings in the slaves before but the last time, they piston had worn the outside housing of the slave unit so no o-ring was going to prevent my leak. Be sure to inspect the inside of the housing when you take it apart. If it's worn, it will have a shiny spot.

Yea I was about a second from buying some 10w fork oil but the little man inside of me said to play it safe. I cannot believe i am even having this problem I am not sure on the hours but its between 15 and 25 hours on my bike and the timing for it to go out seems very odd. I wonder if it was the hill I got stuck on that did it. Anyhow I am praying it is just the o ring. cheap and easy

Don't know if it's exactly the same cylinder, but on some of the Huskys which have Magura clutches they get the same problem and the feeling was that it's because the piston isn't very thick and as a result it rocks about a little within the shaft and the edges cause damage. Somebody came up with a new piston which is thicker, has better sealing and positions the piston in a slightly different place within the cylinder so even if you have damage from the original one it will still work as it's sealing against a different part of the cylinder which should still be pristine.

You'd probably find info on it quite easily by searching Cafe Husky if anyone's interested. Not much help if it's a different cylinder to yours, but at least it might explain what the original cause of the problem is. I never had that problem with my old Husky, but on two occasions the seal in the master cylinder did fail and leaked quite badly. It was easy to see where the fluid went those times though!

Small update for those who are curious. I fixed it. New O-ring did it but I didnt find anything wrong with the old one. not sure why but when I tried topping off the fluid it WOULD NOT work. Had to take the slave apart and replace the ring. Works Good for now. I see what petem was saying though that thing needs to be longer it rocks around WAY too much. I could see fluid pushing past it when it was tilted when I took it apart and I was thinking the same thing. WHY ISNT THE PISTON LONGER? anyhow all is well that ends well got my stuff and some support from BOSS good service THANKS
