What fuel hose/line to use?

Hello, I have some mix-matched fuel hoses on my rig... so I am going to buy all new hose (the PO zip-tied instead of hose clamped, so it's not pretty).

The woman at the local auto supply said that 1/4" ID hose was what I would be after... it seems about right since I measured 7.34mm ID on the GOOD hose that is on the bike.

The bike is currently in storage about 1 hr away from my house, so could somebody chime in for concurrence.

1/4" ID fuel hose seem like the right one?

Go to a m/c shop and take your fuel line. Get the clear or blue tubing... Not the rubber stuff. It is good to see the flow. I think I use 1/4 I.d. And the ends are a well stretched to go around the taps. The taps are slightly over 1/4 " .... More like 5/16.

1/4" id is what you are after, just did some 'berg plumbing a few weeks back. The 1/4" id will be condom tight on your fittings, just the way she likes it.

Great. That's what I got. Unfortunately, I already bought the fuel line in rubber before Kayeffess said to get clear... in hindsight the clear makes more sense, but this will work for now.

Just a heads up....Motion Pro clear line from the MC shop is not really fuel line. It's for vent lines only, yet strangely enough not many if any bikes utilize 1/4 vent hoses.

I redid all my fuel and vent lines. Within 3-4 months the fuel supply lines were hardened up. Not flexible at all. Maybe the ethanol, idk?
I used it for my vent lines at the same time, they are still flexible well over a year later.

I prefer Tygon, the yellow stuff for fuel line, but couldn't find any so used Motion Pro black fuel line. I think it's nitrile? It doesn't degrade or harden.

Hard to find, but the green spring clamps are the best fit for the black line I mentioned.
Not the wire clamps, they are flat. No leaky, and the lines won't pull off.

I get them at Napa/Riebes, or some Ace hardware shops have them.

I just did my Aux vent line. Best deal I found was at tractor supply. It was 5' of clear blue fuel line for $6. You cant beat that! My o'reillys tried to get me for more than $3 a foot!

7.5mm I.D. is the original size. You can purchase it at European car dealerships like BMW or Mercedes by the meter.

Metric Fuel Hose by the Foot

IAP sells it for $3.60 a foot.

1/4" is a bit too small and 5/16" is too big. The 1/4" size can be used in a pinch but it is a very tight fit.

The 7.5mm fuel line fits the 8mm petcock stub perfectly.

All, I installed the new fuel line yesterday. 1/4" black rubber stuff.

Barricade® Carburetion Fuel Line Hose | Gates Corporation

I used this stuff ^^^

I worked alright... the tightest fit was at the carb itself, but the T-junction that I have is meant for 1/4" I think.

Anyway, for future reference, the 7.5mm stuff is probably the ticket.

Also, somebody commented that clear line is better than opaque since you can see your fuel flow. I would agree with this, but the opaque rubber line is nice and soft/flexy, with a longer life. The clear plastic line doesn't do well in colder climates as it gets very stiff and tends to crack.

Food for thought.
