What boots

I need new boots and have been wearing Gaerne boots for the last 5 years. They've done well and I think I like the look of the SG10 that they sell now. Any comments on them or any other boots?

Cheers :?:

Been wearing the same pair of Tech 8's for the last 8 years they have held up well.

Been looking to replace them with either the Tech 8's or with the Crossfires. There is quite a following of people who rave about the cross fires.

The Sidi CrossFire SRS have got my attention. They ain't cheap (~$400), but I love the fact that the boot is made of replacable components.

The SG10 get alot of good reviews as well, and better price point.

Let us know what you get and how they work out. happy hunting

i've been trying the fox offroad trackers, which so far after one season are holding up well. they have a proper gripped sole like a work boot which means you can actually walk around/drag your bike out of the slippy stuff with out ending up on your ***. cheap too.

tech 10's are my choice , very comfortable and give excellent support . they take 20 + hours
to break in and are rock hard out of the box .

I have some Sidi boots, (can't remember the model but the have the hinged ankle) whilst comfortable from the off these have not lasted as I'd hoped. I've had mine just over a year and I have to duct tape the pastic parts together, I have lost buckles and had to drill out snapped bolts. I will not be replacing them with another pair of Sidi's. I would get something more leather based as my alpinestars trials boots are maybe 10years old and are still good. You can treat them with leather food and clean every now and again and they last.
I've been looking at enduro boots and think I will get some Tech 3's with the enduro sole as the are not to expensive should last well and have a grippy sole.
You can talk about protection all day but I feel the best protecting boots are the one's you feel comfortable in as them allow you to ride out of trouble!

I have recently purchased the Tech 7s , they seemed to fit quite well ,as I have a broad foot, cheap ,comfortable, have replacable section on the soles and are pretty water tight. Dry feet , you cant go wrong.!!

Im very happy since I went with the Tech 3s. I wear them once a week for 2 years now and they look and work great even for being the cheaper model. Got em for around 150. Maybe I'll try the tech 7 or 8s next time. The money is probably well spent.

i went from shift combat to alpine star tech 3. as far as i am concerned i'm going to stick with alpine star as long as they keep making them. there is no comparison when it comes comfort for my feet. You can even walk in them fairly easily. plus the price is right on the tech 3. look online at ironpony.com. can't beat the price.

My old Tech 8s have done about 35,000 km of bush work. Can't remember how many insteps replaced, which is a great feature, and 2 complete resoles and a set of booties. Expensive up front, but economical over time. New Tech 8s for me, although they do seem to be a completely different boot, just still got the same name and basic features, ie booties and replaceable insteps and lighter.

Does anyone out there have a need for RHS insteps? They are only available in pairs and I seem to go through about 3 LHS ones to each RHS, hence I have a few spare, will swap for LHS.

For what it's worth..........

I just replaced my old Tech 8's last night with a new pair of Tech 8's. I tried several different pairs of the Tech series, 5 & 7's, and still found the 8's to be the superior boot for my particular tastes.

One thing I did not like about the other "cheaper" Tech boots was that the flap thingie, I guess you would call it the tongue of the boot is much shorter on the 5's and 7's. So, it "appeared" to me that they would not seal as good as the 8's with it's taller tongue.

And I like the separate booty that comes with the 8's. I like being able to remove the booty when going riding for multiple days as it helps the boot to dry out faster, and in my opinion makes for a more comfortable fit.

I did not try any other brand of boots. I did speak with several people I know about this subject and the it seems the crossfires don't seem to have the longevity of the tech series of boots.

And speaking of longevity, the all of the Tech series boots seem to have great longevity.

Sidi Crossfire SRS!

I've been using Sidi's for the last 5-6 seasons now and the Crossfire's are the best boot I've ever owned. I prefer the SRS version. I had good luck with the Force Flex's before these came out, but these are the best boot made IMO. There is no break-in time required and they have held up extremely well. Worth every penny IMO. Not sure which Sidi's ManxBerg had bad luck with, but I'm guessing it's the ForceFlex's. Problems corrected with the Crossfires.

I'd rank the Gaerne's a clear 2nd choice, as they are great boots as well. You will get more of a "feel" with the Gaerne's because of the construction.

Tech 7's, love them, but they're anything but water proof. Comfy, perfect fit for my broader feet, and I love the lack of a toe iron.

Both the current 7's and the previous 8's have been fubard on the seam just above the heel, (I assume from wrist movement) - and this creates a perfect entry for water, but even before this happened I had wet feet on most outings...

I still love them, can't get gaerne or sidis on my feet (they're too wide).

Strange, the boots with the roomiest fit I´ve ever tried is Gaerne Fastback and SG10

On my second pair of SG10's and have a new pair un-used in the closet. I don't really think about boots anymore. I know alot of guys
really like there Sidis and they sure look like quality units. I have owned a couple of alpinestars, the soles are junk IMO.

Yeah, I was recommended those for my wide feet (both high wrists, and the feet are quite wide (size 11's as well...).
Can't even get my foot in the size I usually go for, but the Tech 7's are just about perfect for me. :)

The Gaernes, hinged or unhinged, are waterproof if you regularly treat them with leather oils/greases. Maybe that is true for other boots as well?, I don't know.

Are the Alpinestars made in the Gaerne factory?

I've had Axo RC 6's for some years, older ones converted to snow enduro (skid bottoms). Newer ones better design than the old ones.
