Hi guys!

I recently got a good deal on a Husaberg from a autorised Husaberg dealer here in Norway. http://www.husaberg.no
He claims that this is a 2006 FC 550, but after a bit of recearch I discovered that the last FC where made in 2005.

Can any of you guys determin by the photos below if this is a 05 or a 06, and if it is a FC or a FE?
The bike is in for a engine rebuild before i get it, so I don't have any vin-number ect.

Thanks :)

It looks like an 05 with 06 tank and shrouds.
05's had a blue frame like the one pictured, 06's had a black frame.
FE's came with lights while FC's did not although they may have been removed.

Thanks for your reply logjump.

Are the 05 and 06 FC's pretty much the same bikes, or are there some significant improvement on the 06 that can justify me asking for a lower price on it, if it turns out that it's a 05?

Hi Ovensen send me a PM of the last 6 numbers of your frame number and I can tell you all about your bike from Husaberg dealer net.

Will do, as soon as the dealer send it to me. He's doing a engine rebuild before i get the bike.

Thanks! :)

It looks like the clutch side cover is a one piece and not a two piece....
My guess is an 01-03

Could be -02 if the frame has original color.
Low resolution pictures makes it harder to see exactly.

Bigger pictures,
(there is a red thingy on the right, near the throttle. Is that a electric starter?)

The dealer said it was a 06' 550/4.

As i wrote the above, i actually got a email from him.

I'll try to translate:

-

"The 05 and 06 FC's are technically identical, (yet different from the 04 models). They where produced in a continued series for 2 years. The difference between 05 and 06 are the tank and color.
They both got blue frame, whilst the FE and FS got a black frame in 2006."

-

Did any of that make sense?
I have no reason to doubt him, and he's probably right when he says that it's a 06.

He is a well renowned man, and is often referred to as mr. Husaberg here in Norway. :)

Sounds like it may be a very limited and unofficial 06' or unsold 05' FC in which the factory or dealer upgraded to o6' tank/shroud and blue front fender.
Did the dealer explain that 550/4 means it's a 4 speed?
BTW, I have an 05 FE550 and it's awesome! :D

I have 2 2005 FE650s. One was manufactured 7/04 and the other 11/04.
The first has the oil fill hole and cap positioned verticle as it looks on your bike.
They then changed the cover mid production so it has an angled fill hole and cap for easier filling.
My 11/04 bike has it this way.
The kickstarter looks like my earlier bike also
as that too is a little different from my newer bike.

Yeah. I dont know much about Husaberg but I knew about the /4-thing :)
I don't know any specs on it though. Not HP or anything

Husaberg specs are hard to find!, or maby I've just been searching the wrong places.

I've never ridden a Husaberg either.
This bike had some engine issues when I saw it for the first time and could not be ridden.
It's getting a complete engine rebuild.

I actually went to the dealer that day to trade in my Husqvarna TC 250 for a TC 450, (gotten a bit fatter over the years so i needed some more cubic ;), but then he showed me this Husaberg instead wich he thought could be more interesting for me.

I only saw the bike for about 5 minutes, and havent seen it since. All i got are the pictures above.
Expecting to get it during december. (hopefully..)
Can't wait!! :)

How are the FE compared to the FC?
Are they pretty much the same besides the lights on the FE?

The motors are the same (FE vs FC) but I think the valves were titanium on the 05 FC's . As stated previously the FC is a four speed. The FC"s have 19" rear wheels. The spring rates are slightly higher on the FC and jetting is slightly fatter.

Download the owners manual from husaberg.com and read up on all of the specs.

I have a 2005 FE450 and it is still going strong with no issues.

Are you going to race motocross with this bike? If not I would probably want the FE. You could always remove the lights and starter/battery if you wanted to and have two more gears at your disposal.

Does it have a starter or battery box? An FC will have neither. If it has a 4 speed it is definitely an FC, although I have never seen any 4 speed FC550's in North America. It does have the 06 plastics as stated, but the 05 blue frame. Does it have a bung fitting in the bottom of the radiator on the lower right corner?

If I understood the dealer correctly in the email he sent me yesterday the 06 FC is essentially a 05. They produced the 05 for two years, and since this one was produced in 06, they fitted the new tank etc.
Only the FE and FS got black frames in 06.

Not shure if I understand what bung is.
Is that some sort of plug? Draining plug?

The bung is a threaded hole with a cap on it for a thermostatic switch. One that comes in a fan kit. They did not start doing that until 06, thats why they changed the tank shrouds as well.

I finally got the bike home yesterday.
Brand new studded tires, ready for some action on the ice ;)
