What battery Ah should I use on my Fe501 ´01?

Ok, I have tried to have lookout both thru the "search"section and in the "docs"...
probably I did it wrong... but still I ended up with no answer...

with that said, here I go:

I´ve changed my battery, the store that I use to buy husabergstuff in is usually good and I trust them!... but this time they must have made a mistake... they gave me 4Ah battery... that wouldn´t even fit the batteryframe...it was to small...

Now I´m confused, cause the old battery was 5Ah and in my Husabergs usersguide they are talking about 8Ah...

Anyone got a clue?
Ofcourse you do... so tell me! :)

i can't see the doc anywhere at present but search for a YTZ7s. this is a gel-cel battery. it's the same size as the 5AH battery but has way more cranking amps as they're called.

oh, my god!!!!

Not u again!!!

:D

So the 8Ah according to the users manual is not right?

And yes, "the docs" are hard to find... but very usefull when you do!

Love ya Taffy!

The YTZ7S became standard issue in 2004. Keep a five step charger plugged into it when not in use as the little bugger does not like its voltage to drop too low.

Ok, I got a charger, an optimate and I know about the problem you mentioned. But Why does the usersguide say 8 Ah?? is this YTZ7S comparable to that or what?

And to json (I hope you read this), THANKS for this site it´s pure joy to be here, and it saves me time and money as well!!!

Keep up the good work!

The Yuasa YTZ7S battery has a capacity of 6 amp hrs. It is used on 2004 and newer e-start Bergs.

The Yuasa YTX5L-BS has a capacity of 4 amp hrs. It was used on 2001-2003 e-start models.

A Yuasa YTX9-BS was used on 1997-2000 e-start models. This is a dimensionally larger battery than the YTZ7S and is carried under the seat. It has a capacity of 8 amp hrs.

If your owners manual is telling you to run a 8AH battery I think that your bike is actually a 2000 model and not an 2001.

If the battery is located under the seat it is a 2000 or earlier model. You can run the top of the line YTZ series battery in your 1997-2000 instead of the stock YTX-BS by substituting a YTZ10S. The YTZ has 190CCA contrast to 120CCA for the stock battery. It also has a 8.6 amp hr rating.

Ok, thanks!

I´m pretty sure that my bike is a ´01 and they gave me an 4 Ah battery... one problem is that is seems that it hasn´t enough power to (re)start the engine and the other problem is the size of the battery... it´s much to small, it litterally drowns down in the "batteryframe"... but maybe they come in different sizes even though it´s same Ah?

I have an '03 fe 400 and I was killing batteries every month so I spent the big bucks and go an odyssey pc310. They give out 310cca for the 1st 5 seconds and 100 cca after that. It's been in there for about 12 months and works a treat. Hope that may help.

oh yeah a stock battery is 'bout 60cca

Show us a picture of the bike and we will tell you what size battery it had when new.

What charger are you using on that Odyssey mate?

Any mods needed or was it a direct bolt in?

Thanks joe, I´ll see if I can get some pictures!

I just use the altinator or generator whatever these things use and for the '03 the odyssey battery is about 15mm wider than the stock 5LBS so I made a cage and stuck it under the seat utilising the plastic shock gard mounts. I'll try get some pics.

Ok, I got myself a new battery a 4Ah...

but when I try to start the bike (warm) with the e-start... it sounds like the battery is charged but that it´s not able to give the right amount of ....let´s call it "push"... that´s required to start the bike....

Sounds familiar to anyone?

Any ideas?

Could we do a side by side comparison of the PC310 vs the Yuasa YTZ7S?

CCAs

PC310:
310 cranking amps for 5 seconds
250 cranking amps for 10 seconds
225 cranking amps for 20 seconds
200 cranking amps for 30 seconds

YTZ7S:
C.C.A.: 130

No indication of for how long on the Yuasa site. I guess some "electrical guru" could test this.

AH:

PC310: 8 Ah

YTZ7S: 6 Ah

Dimensions:

PC310: 5.43" (L) x 3.39" (W) x 3.98" (H) or 138 mm x 86 mm x 101 mm

YTZ7S: 4 7/16" (L) x 2 3/4" (W) x 4 1/8" (H) or 113 mm x 70 mm x 105 mm

Weight:

PC310: 5.9 lbs or 2.7 kg

YTZ7S: 4.6 lbs or 2.1 kg

Conclusion: the PC310 is obviously peppier than the Yuasa but you will need to machine a new battery mount for it or see if you can mount it vertically in the existing mount. The weight gain may be considered negligible.

As for the CCAs, I wonder if their claim of 310 CCA for 5 seconds is true and what the Yuasa figure really is.

the other one to way up is the price.

odyssey's are $210 + gst+freight from us. dunno what a yuassa is worth tho
