Gave my FE450 a wash and brush up after a ride, then it would not start. Hmmm, could be water in the electrics. Pulled the plug, still got a nice fat spark.
OK - water in the carb. Drain carb and try again. Nothing????? :? :? :?

Right!!! Carb off and a strip down incase there is still a drop of water in there or even ice*.

Well it was cold. :( :(

Still no luck. :( :( :( :(

So off to bed and worried for my bike.
2am I wake up with a start and realise what is wrong.
When I wash my bike I take the seat and tank off and I also remove the CDI box ( I get a bit wild with the power washer).
There it was sat on the bench in the garage laughing at me.
I even put it back on and fired the bike up in the middle of the night.

Ice in carb????
Yes it was cold

LOL. I haven't done that one.....yet.

Good for you for being out in that weather. I'd love to see more and bigger pix if you have any.

Hi Kelsow

Only have one more image of the day. The quality is not to good as they were taken on my phone/camera.
The photo does not show the wind speed but it was hard work standing up. About 30 seconds after taken this photo the wind blew my bike over and knocked the Yam over too.
We have been having some real bad storms this week. This track was green when we set out then we got caught up in bit of a white out. The wind was moving pretty fast and in some places the snow was getting blown away as soon as it landed.

The other two pix show something I have never seen before, icicles forming sideways.
It was all over. Forming on the lee side of fence wire and blades of grass. The miosture in the air was getting blown against things and freezing and building up as we watched.
Aint nature amazing.
It may have been cold but it felt great to be alive and riding.

Bill :D

I have no idea how you guy's can survive in that cold nor ride in it. 20 deg C here is too cold.

What was the temperature there.....roughlt?

Ferret,
Some dont mind the cold, for me anything colder than -10c is no fun.Although it is true that there really is no bad weather for riding, only bad clothes..

Ferret,
It was about -5c on the high ground, with the wind chill my beard was starting to freeze.
As soon as we dropped down 200 feet the temp gets above freezing.
If we get a good covering of snow a few of us like to go out after dark. It`s great for focusing the mind.
We have one guy who rides without gloves most of the time but we reckon he is in league with the devil.
I don`t feel cold while riding as long as it is a tough route. It is like nsman says it is down to the right clothing. The water crossings can get interesting tho`

you guys are nuts! :D

the only thing we worry about down here is sunburn, kangaroos and running out of water.

your beard freezes that's insane

well I guess snow is less dirty than mud so why not.

as for doin stupid stuff, ages ago I was having trouble with the electric start (big surprise) and eventually I got the old girl purring. so I take her for a strap and about 1 K down the rd she stops. So I kick the snot outta the berg and after 15 minutes of trying to kick start her I notice the fuel tap was off. 1st kick and she was alive again. woooo

Not tryng to one up, another ***** story.....I was working with my son on his KTM 65SX. We took it apart and put it back together with loctite and all, over the course of two or three nights. The next day I went and got some gas/oil...when I got home from work he was waiting for me..."lets start it"....he just got it days before. Fuel in, pushed near the garage door -- freezing and dark outside. Turned on the petcock and choke...kick...kick, hmmm...kick, kick, kick, kick...should be ok, it ran before we took it apart. Kick, kick, kick, some more. Check the plug, sparking and getting gas...dried the plug, put it back in...kick, kick, kick, dang! Alright, I am gonna try the push start... out under the street light, a quick push..ting, ting, waaaaaaaaaaa, I mean WAAAAAAAAA! It drug me down the road into the darkness...wide open, fron end clawing the air....the last sight my son saw was me being drug away hanging off the side of his little racer... by the time I finally figured out the front brake is too powerful, the rear shoes shot, I discovered the kill button! I pushed it back up the hill, my son whiter than a sheet..I think it taught him a valuable lesson...at my expense....trashed a brand new pair of dress shoes! Diagnosis, frayed throttle cable.... Well it runs fine now and I am sure to wear boots and helmet.....live and learn...at 45 years!
