My titanium Arrows system cracked around the entire circumference at an original weld just a couple of inches from the manifold.
I had it welded at a local shop which manufactures stainless exhausts.
You could stick a magnet to it, so the guy said it was probably a ti / steel alloy which had a high % of steel, so it could be welded using their standard equipment.
Weld has not cracked yet.
Does this help??

i'm off to th british weldng institute at gt abingdon just south of cambridge in the morning so i'll let you know.

ben,

theres a guy in Adelaide SA that did the ti repair on my Akro last year, he does a top job, and it would be lucky to cosl $50 - $100 Australian.

let me know if I can help.

just back from the asylum, i mean institution, and the man has done a great job! the job took 40 minutes to prepare for with an inert gas coming through the middle of the downpipe, another came at angle into the side of his welding gun and a third inside the welding gun itself. self adhesive silver foil type tape was taped everywhere to keep all the gases doing their thang.

what's the fuss...!

now we'll see if it fits!

i think ben has agreed to sell it again. i'll tell you all now that it's a superbly made piece of kit but being a 501the pipe sits 15mm lower and in order to fit it misses he frame by 2mm and touches the carbs petrol feed. so no good.

so it'll prolly be for sale. ideally the new buyer should have a MK1 keihin and convert the fuel feed to the right side. or if you have a dell orto YOU ARE LAUGHING!!!!!

apply to benmoto501..........

for future reference,

titanium can be welded just the same as alluminium (alternating current) , only titanium needs a much more constant flow of shielding gas (pure argon) then alluminium, if any non inert gas gets into the weld pool, (eg; purging with gas both inside and outside of the pipe, if not, welding inside a chamber) the weld will develop a green tinge, and become EXTREMELY brittle.

One of the best materials i have ever welded.

Hope this helps.
