ok so my bike mechanic sets about changing the seals on my waterpump on my 96 fe600 then he calls me to tell me that the camshaft has grooves on it & that is the problem & he couldn't say if it would still leak or not he put it back together cos i needed the bike for an enduro meeting today & it still leaked does anyone know if this is true or not do i need a new camshaft & how much is it :(

yes

if you can move it and you check that all fits then do it! if you can put in a metal washer of somekind to act as a shoulder for both you and the next owner well then that's a solid cure isn't it!

If moving the seal doesnt work out simply pull your cam out and head to your nearest machine shop and say ''oi wack a speedy sleeve over this''
and wullah good as new sealing surface

cheers doug

its ok guys i have ordered a new cam it was only £86 +vat so not too bad thanx for ur input though cool i'm learning all the time

oil cam

When I wash my bikes I spray a small amount of chain oil in the weep hole to prevent the cam from rusting. After all if the seals are new the cam should not have oil on it if the seals are working, Hence raw steel exposed to the air will rust none of mine leak, Oh you might have to wipe off the oil after doing this when it gets hot.
