Every time i do a river crossing my FE450 (2011) dies. She doesn,t want to start so i leave her for 10 mins and starts , no problem. Anyone else have this problem?
What do ? How to waterproof electrics ?

sounds like it may be your plug wire.... my bro's bike was arching to the radiator when water was introduced causing the same problem... wire to plug cap is also not completely waterproof causing the wire ends to corrode quicker than normal...
or water entering the airbox.... but its got to be pretty deep

Most of the connections are sealed very well, the kill switch connectors behind the headlight mask are not sealed so well.

I find that if I ride into water fast it jets into the air box thru the rad shrouds, soaking the filter and snuffing the motor, same goes for really deep water.

I also had a spark plug cap that allowed water in and would evaporate away when the bike stood. Hey presto it would start. I like to close the drain hole off with some heavy section oring material.

Are you sure it isn't the steam coming up off of the motor and going into the air box?

That is what mine was doing.

I had wrapped my mid pipe and when I came up out of the river, the steam was pouring off of the mid pipe header wrap, and up through the hole where the fuel line and fuel pump electrical connector are.

That made me realize that most of the induction air was coming in from right above the mid pipe.

So, I drilled a line of holes along the flange on the radiator shrouds where it meets the seat.

The result was very good, as evidenced by the dust imprints on the air cleaner after I made this mod. I had some pictures in the gallery of this mod, but, can't find the gallery on the new page set up....
