water pump weeping

I have a 2010 FE570 with just over 30 hrs on it. I've owned it for about 5 of those hrs. Today I noticed a few drops of water escaping from under the water pump, hard to see but I'm assuming there's a weep hole there. I heard rumor this is common?! Should I keep riding until it pisses out faster than I can top it up or is there a repair that properly deals with this problem? Is the OEM seal the issue?

greg..mine does the same thing. i am going to keep an eye on it for now. some say it might go away. i lose maybe 50ml of fluid over a day of riding. if it is still weeping come springtime, i will get a new seal put in. there are rumours that the factory seal might be installed backwards causing the leak. just keep an eye on fluid level....but that would mean keeping the front tire on the ground long enough to check!

Thanks Pete. Boy or Girl? It just makes me crazy knowing this beautiful motor is leaking coolant. Should be a recall.

I have had this problem and got it sorted. The issue was the waterpump seal was not fitted correctly from the factory. It resulted in it wearing incorrectly, incase it is the same as mine, get it checked out soonish as it can wear a groove in the shaft

My 2010 570FE water pump was dripping a small amount of coolant from the weep hole. I bought a new seal. When I took it apart it appeared I was looking at the backside of the seal. The image and instructions in the Manual confirm this arrangement. My instincts want to install the new seal facing the opposite direction. What to do?

Don't follow your instincts.

Big Booger and I did our seals today. It went pretty easy. He had to use a new gasket on the water pump cover, I was able to get away without replacing mine. Both of us were able to pop out the incorrectly installed seals pretty easily. New ones popped right in. As I was putting mine back together, I noticed my impeller had a chunk missing out of it. Closer inspection also found a fair bit of wear (grooves) on the impeller where it faces the pump cover. I think a piece of the broken part must have lodged in there and caused the grooves. Called up a local dealer and a new impeller is on its way.

Anyone know where the tiny bits of the impeller would have ended up? I hope they just got ground up and was dumped during the last fluid change.
