hi;
on my 02 fe650e the weep hole leaks lots of antifreeze.
in the downloaded parts manual it shows a
' Seal Ring Kick Shaft 10x18x4x4,8'
i'm assuming that this is the worn part.
am i correct?
can this be gotten locally or does it have to come thru husaberg?
thanks in advance.

Hi tuts,

You can get these down at your local bearing suppliers - they're a standard size.

It may not necessarily be worn out, just out of alignment, but it's just not worth playing about with. Just get a new one and bung it in. It can be done easily enough after just removing the waterpump cover.

Cheers,
Simon

simon;
thanks for the info. i'll try our local bearing company.
i dont know what you mean when you say it maybe out of alignment. doesnt it go together only one way?
thanks

correct tuts but the cover was machined seperate from the shaft and where do you locate a cast sidecover to start machining all the faces and holes?

if you thought it was miles off centre as you fed the cover onto the locating dowels you may have to consider some machine work.

tuts,

By out of alignment I mean that the seal may not be sitting square in the casing and therefore at an angle to the casing and shaft - thus letting fluid past.

Interestingly, the seal can be fitted facing inwards or outwards as I found out on my 03 engine versus 01 engine. On the 01, the face of the seal faced outwards, on the 03 it was inwards :roll: So it seems it should be OK either way - I don't have a coolant leak on either.

One word of caution - when fitting the seal, cover the lip on the water pump shaft (for retaining the pump circlip) with some insulation tape and then some grease. Otherwise the seal can get caught and the spring can get flipped out of the back of the seal - a complete pain!

Cheers,
Simon

How do you get the seal out by just removing the water pump housing and impeller?
I took the side cover off and drifted the seal and bearing out.

the water pump seal on the 04 onwards only go in 1 way

their is a chamfer on the edge of the seal allowing the seal to be fitted into the cover .

Hey Bill,

Lets just make sure we're talking about the same seal. That is that small seal through which the water pump impeller shaft goes through and not the larger one that sits on the engine side of the bearing behind the case.

The seal can simply be prized out with a small screwdriver and a new one pushed back into place by hand.

Cheers,
Simon

Hello Simon

Yep that`s the seal i am talking about.

My bike shop sold me that seal plus the bearing/seal and a o ring.
I feel that i was miss sold these items as all i needed to replace was the small seal to stop the water leak. Oh well, i have learned how the seals and bearing go together and the condition of my clutch.

Thanks for the advice i will do as you say next time i get a water leak.

Bill :D
