thats what it sounds like as i go along on a steady throttle in the higher gears. this 04 650E has 05 cam chain. chain guide, tensioner mod, the light rattle seems to be coming from the top end. on inspection of the rockers, cam , bearings , all was good.
valves have correct clearance, look at the red button and it starts :D
it is going the best it ever has , is this a normal berg mechanical noise ?

thanks to all for your advice , past , present, and future.

none of us have to be husey experts, rather better to be a decent mechanic first so i suggest you seek out a mechanic of any sort or one that appreciates bikes.

regards

Taffy

If the noise sounds like a clack- clack noise I would suggest you check the torgue on the primary drive nut on the L.H. side of the engine.

the noise isn't a'clack clack' , it is more of a light rattle. it doesn't affect the performance of the 'grunt master' , maybe i am too fussy.

Thats What Our 400 Sounds Like,Sounds As If The Top-Ends About To Part Company With The Rest Of The Engine.
I'm A Mechanic And Could'nt Find Anything Loose/Fitted Incorrectly,So I Asked A Good Friend Of Mine Who's A Bike Tech To Cast His Eye Over It.
He Could'nt Find Anything Wrong With It,Adjusted The Valves And Decomp Cables For A Little More Free Play,But That Made No Difference.
He Seems To Think Maybe Little Ends Worn But Doesnt Sound Quite Right For It Or One Of The Valves Not Seating Right.
I Think It May Be The Auto Decomp,I Fitted A New One With Dales Chain,Tensioner,Blade Upgrade And '53 Cam.
It Still Goes Very,Very Well,Better Than When We First Got Her.
What Do Those Of You Who Have Had Bergs For Many Years Think?
Can The Auto Decomp Make These Sorts Of Noises?

There's Noise :D And There's Noise
It Wasnt There When We First Got It,It Was Quite Noisey When It Started To Fail,So Rebuilt The Top End,It Quieter Now,But Still Present.

Basically it's not abnormal to hear a lot of noise coming from the rocker box on a Berg. You should hear the sound of all those rotating parts, happily splashing in their warm oil bath.

I guess that with time all that noise becomes more noticeable as there is more play. My 01 makes quite a bit of noise, but it's normal as it has quite a lot of Bobzilla miles before and I don't worry, I intend to ride it until it explodes.

as kez mentioned the small end it made me think , years ago i had an xr 600 and i thrashed it day after day, in the end it made the same type of noise only under load. on teardown of the motor a flogged out small end was found, so as some of you mentioned normal wear and tear it makes sense.
the berg has done 125 hours and the manual does say inspect items well before this amount of time. so now i know its wear and tear . also i just changed the oil and the drain plug was clean of any nasty bits. thanks for your replys 8)
