Hi.

Is there any warning signs, that can let me know that......"Hey, it's time for a valve adjustment, or any "major" work.....

I can do basic stuff, and i pretty much do it more often that needed, oil changes, filter changes, brakes, etc.

But i need the shop to do valves and such.......since it's a second hand bike, I'm not quite sure how many hours it's got.....

IS THERE ANY SIGNS, OR SHOULD I JUST DO IT After the recommended hours.....and I'm sure there is 10hours and then there is 10HOURS......I pretty much explore around with a mate on the weekend. NO RACING!!!???

Specifically on a 2001 650 Model?

Thanks

Warning signs
1) Hard or difficult starting
2) excessive noise or tapping from the rocker area.

It's more likely to be #1.

no you don't. i'm a complete mechanical ******, but i can check and adjust the valves on a husaberg. it's a little intimidating the first time, but there are excellent step by step procedures running around here and on ktmtalk.

RE: Re: Warning Signs

ooooooooooo, I'm tempted to figure it out, but I'm scared, and got a quote from the shop that it takes 90mins and at R180 and hour....which is not to bad. Maybe i should just take the plunge!..................though call!!!!! still freaks me out!

RE: Re: Warning Signs

I guess when the mechanic said he could adjust Berg valves blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back,
he wasn't kidding. 90 mins to adjust valves is insane.

RE: Re: Warning Signs

er.....90 mins to slow or to fast.....how long should it take?!?!?! (there it is....me sounding uninformed?)..........

RE: Re: Warning Signs

HA, Bloody hell........ I KNEW IT!!!!! Okay...where can i find a proper guide to valve adjust, tools required, what to look for, etc. I'm gonna do it my damn self!!!!! FEAR IS THE ENEMY!!!! thanks for the heads up!

RE: Re: Warning Signs

Lots of threads here if you search and there are even some at KTMTalk.
Take your time at first, grab a beer or 2 and it will be a little unnerving but you can do it.

Ask if you have any questions.
