Want to wire this switch up on Right hand side near throttle

I Broke my HI LOW and start switch on my 02 400E

Am wanting to hard wire my hi low switch to always be high so i no longer need a hi low switch. And then wire on the new switch so it will start the Berg as well as turn it off.

Will probably still want to leave the left hand side kill switch still connected.

I have no idea about wiring etc but have included the diagram and the switch. Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

Sorry mate could not help myself (tee hee)

Hope you get sorted, brookester

Looking at your wiring diagram the blue/white is the start wire, the red/white is a 12V supply to the switch unit. Connecting these two together through a momentary push button switch pulls in the starter solenoid (ie spins the engine) & also sends a signal to the CDI unit, I'm assuming to make it modify the spark advance curve when starting.

The grey is the HI/LO spark advance curve signal back to the CDI. The brown is a ground connection to the switch. You would normally connect these together or disconnect them to select HI or LO, but the bloody diagram does not show whether HI has the wires connected or disconnected. You can probably tell from the old switch or someone else might know for sure. I think the switch unit is the same as on the earlier bikes where the toggle is used as an engine kill. If it is then the contacts are closed when the toggle is in the left position when sitting on the bike (Hint - Be sure about your left & right! You said earlier the throttle was on the left side???)

Rather than lose the HI/LO control altogether you could mount a off-the-shelf toggle switch anywhere on the bike & connect it up. I don't know how much difference the control makes but.

Thanks for your help I will find some time in the next week to have a go as you have suggested. I hope i can get it working.

Any one have any ideas on how to wire the stopper and run part???

Someone correct me here if I am wrong, but I have read on here somewhere (probably before the crash of '04) that if you disconnect the hi/lo switch the ignition will default to hi

Excellent thats the sort of info I am after as I would rather not have the switch at all. Can anyone confirm this etc.

Hehehh i just edited my first post and subject so that it makes sense from when you are sitting on the bike. Not the way I have it looking at it from the front. Hence the left hand side throttle :).

Off is the orange wire but it's connected to the left hand switch, lights etc.
I had problem with that one 1.5 years ago so I don't remember for sure and I don't have the bike close. The stop button short cut the circuit.

This is directly from my weak memory. Take it as a hint.
Over the carburettor it will be a connection of three orange wires. One goes to the coil and the other two go left and right respectively. The one routed left goes to the left switch and the one routed right should go to the ignition key. With some luck you will find an orange wire, sometimes it changes colour within the harness, which is cut and put down in the right hand wiring harness. If not and you will keep the left wiring harness untouched, connect a wire to the orange wire from the coil and route it to your button.

Excellent thanks Mikst. I tried as you stated and it worked fine thanks.

can anyone tell me if i leave the ignition timing hi low switch off does it default to lo as i think it does. Can anyone tell me for sure.

anyone with some info on this??

As Poke says it defaults to Hi - the Hi/Lo switch is merely a switch to earth.

Cheers,
simon
