Ok got my cool and long awaited 4 gal tank from DA BOSS. Fit and finnish is supurb but..............
The tank was designed on a 06 bike and the kick starter on the 05 is just a tad longer.........

Does any body with an 06 or 07 that is never going to get a big tank want to trade kick starters with me?????????????

You know youll be getting the better end of the deal cause you will have the mechinical advantage of a longer (just slightly) starter :lol: :lol:

So are ya sayin that the 06-07 lever is NOT shorter? If so my bad. I was hoping to bipass the grinder or the $130 new part.

Or are ya sayin the 05 wont fit the 06-07

visited BOSS on weds. he said something about taking a heat gun to the tank at that spot. give him a call, he will give you way better details than me. good luck.

Talked to Rick and he told me that and about the shorter lever but....
I am not sure I want to heat the area... it is right at the petcock and I dont really want to distort the tank in that area. My Kick starter actually hits on the rear bolt of the petcock. The lever is not really too far out of the way and I may end up putting a rubber hose on the end of the starter so it wont rub the bolt or tank... that or grind down the lever.

Corse if I wasnt so cheap I would buy the one for the 06 :twisted:

Bob, if you sold that recipe for the chile, you wouldn't have to worry about being cheap.

But what I meant was the old lever is too long for the 06/07 tanks, but you could put the diing in the tank like BOSS says, and yes avoid the petcock area, can you rotate the lever back one spline? maybe, huh

best of luck, anyway BOB, and DON'T sell the recipe

why not take the kick starter to a reputable welder and have shorten
best place would close to where you put the boot ( less leverage at that area )
some sanding and polishing and you wouldn't know it was shorten

Fry Thanks for the info. I did not relize the 06 + tank was that much lower. I was thinking the tank was the same and the lever was shorter.

so it's got to be safer to heat the top - where the oxygen is!

don't be a wimp bob! 10 minutes on the exhaust pipe of the car, heat gun, push with a rounded peice of wood, leave it there as it cools. job done!
